It was interesting - I'd like to hear some more 007 done in this way. Be interested to know what you think when you've heard it.

It was interesting. They seemed to have gone back to the book rather than trying to dramatise the film.

It actually wasn't that bad. I thought that transferring a novel that was chock full of action sequences wouldn't work too well on radio, but they managed ok. Shame they missed out much of the early part of the story at Goldfingers Kent home, where Bond is beaten by Oddjob.
Toby Stephens was an obvious shoe in as Bond and Ian McKellan made a good fist as Goldfinger. Not sure about the curiously accented Tim Pigott-Smith though, sounded though he was doing a bad Marlon Brando/Godfather impersonation!
On the whole very good. Didn't try to be like the films which was a good thing and the cast were well used even if Ian Mc occassionally gave away his North country roots.
More please from Jarvis & Ayres
Goldfinger ... The Saturday Play ... Christmas Eve afternoon
BBC Radio4 ... Saturday 24th December 2011 ... 1.00-2.30pm
Very welcome repeat broadcast of this superb full-cast dramatisation of Ian Fleming's classic 1959 novel. When James Bond begins his pursuit of a Auric Goldfinger ... a monstrous and unhinged international criminal ... he uncovers the robbery of the century ... mass murder ... gorgeous sisters Jill and Tilly Masterton ... a man called Oddjob and a beautiful lesbian called Pussy Galore ...
Toby Stephens and Rosamund Pike who play James Bond and Pussy Galore in this radio adaptation also played villains Gustav Graves and Miranda Frost in the Bond movie Die Another Day (2002) and Lisa Dillon who plays Tilly Masterton also played Honey Ryder in the radio adaptation of Dr No.
An exceptional, outstanding cast is headed by Toby Stephens and Ian McKellan.
So relax in your favourite armchair with a warming drink for an afternoon of perfect, thoroughly enjoyable listening for a cold Christmas Eve.
