Next week, BBC Radio 3 is broadcasting a series of talks by Simon Heffer.

Here's the link for the first in the series:

BBC - BBC Radio 3 Programmes - The Essay, British War Films of the 50s, The Cruel Sea

He's covering The Cruel Sea, The Colditz Story, The Dam Busters, Carve Her Name With Pride and Dunkirk. They're all scheduled for around 22:45 each evening Monday 09/01/12 to Friday 13/01/12.

The last series was very good.

It was discussed on PaPAS, as he covered some wartime films of interest. It was called British Cinema of the 40s.

BBC - BBC Radio 3 Programmes - The Essay, British Cinema of the 40s, Went the Day Well?

    The films covered were:

    Went the Day Well?
    A Canterbury Tale
    The Small Back Room
    Kind Hearts and Coronets
    The Blue Lamp

I have them recorded, but I'm not sure if I sent you a copy.

Many thanks, Nick. I think I remember the reference to The Blue Lamp. You're always on top of the wonderful broadcasts and new events. Much appreciate your always sharing them.

If this is as good as the last series, it should be terrific. Very informative. Kind Hearts was loosely based on an Edwardian novel by Roy Horniman called "Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal" and apparently Heff spent years searching for it before he found a copy.
