Agatha Christie's Sleeping Murder
BBC Radio4 Extra Sunday 5th February 2012 ... 1.30-3.00pm/3.30-5am
This is one of my favourite Agatha Christie murder-mysteries ... and my number one Miss Marple story. Superbly well (and very faithfully) adapted by BBC television in 1987 with Joan Hickson as the perfect Miss Marple, with Geraldine Alexander as a stunning Gwenda Reed. Sleeping Murder was very poorly adapted by ITV in 2006 as part of the Geraldine McEwan Marple series ... with so many plot changes Christie's original mystery was barely recognisable.
In this 2001 90 minute radio adaptation ... June Whitfield plays Miss Marple in her last case ... lovely 21 year old Gwenda Reed from New Zealand buys a beautiful house on the English coast. Although she has never visited the country before, Gwenda finds the house strangely familiar. And then she experiences a terrifying vision of murder.
Julian Glover, Beth Chalmers and Derek Waring co-star in Michael Bakewell’s dramatisation ...
directed in 2001 by Enyd Williams.
The novel was first published through the estate of Agatha Christie in 1976.

June Whitfield does a good Miss Marple does she not? Another one on at the weekend The Moving Finger to look forward to. We trawl R4 and 4ex for good stories to keep us company in the car or while we sit here side by side on our PC's (ahh!). Programmes are easily lifted off the PVR hard disc and made into MP3 files.
