Wasn't Dr. Rob Buckman in it at some point ? And Ann Beach ? The show's title stuck in my head as my brother and I used it as a term of (non) endearment for our great-aunt Ruby (as in Rhubarb...)

I found this on a quick search:

ELEPHANT'S EGGS IN A RHUBARB TREE

UK / Thames / 6x30m-e / 1971 2 April - 7 May Fridays 5.15pm

Script Editor: Ian Davidson / Producer: Pamela Lonsdale / Director: Robert Reed

Comedy. Sketch series headed by Richard Beckinsale and also featuring Ann Beach, John Gould, David Rowlands and Paul Whitsun-Jones

YOU MUST BE JOKING

UK / Thames / 15x30m-e/ 1975-76

Producer: Roger Price

Comedy. Sketch series starring young kids from The Anna Scher Children's Theatre. Kids who later went on to better things included Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson as well as Ray Burdis. Pop band Flintlock ( a pet project at the time of Roger Price's) and comedian Jim Bowen also featured each week.
