Default Dith Pran dies
Dith Pran,the Cambodian photographer who was the inspiration behind the 1984 film The Killing Fields,has died aged 65 from pancreatic cancer,his friend Sidney Schanberg has announced. The British film,IMHO one of the finest war films we have ever produced,was based upon Schanberg and Pran's working relationship when the forces of the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia in the mid seventies. Despite Schanberg's efforts to try and get his friend out (he did get his wife and family out),Pran was kept in Cambodia and held prisoner. Schanberg won a Pulitzer Prize for his piece in the New York Times and insisted on sharing it with Pran,even though it was uncertain if he was alive.

Would that be Schanberg's guilty conscience at work because he'd left Dith Pran way up shit creek without a paddle?

The Killing Fields was a great film but it shows how terribly Schanberg treated Dith Pran
