It is reported that Tommy Steele has personally commented on this news as being perfectly correct.

Tommy Steele a liar? No way! The press liars? Yes.

can you actually see both of them at that point in their careers walking thru London or Elivs getting into the UK without anyone seeing him , find it too hard to take in.

It's quite possible Donna - apparently they didn't leave the car and there was no mass media coverage in those days. Much easier to escape recognition with a pair of dark specs.

Even now, in London it's possible to see surprisingly big celebs being ignored. David Bowie's top tip for going unrecognised is to wear glasses and read a foreign language paper.

well if it was it was the best one ever, how did Elvis get in the country or out the other one, think might have been Germany at that time, and was he so insecure that he wanted to meet his competition, in Britain , Tommy although a lovely man cant hold a candle to EP no one can

A mate of mine saw Marlon Brando in London a couple of times, once in Foyles and again in a small cafe, with everyone totally oblivious to who he was. This was in the 70s when Brando was popular again following LTIP and GF and before he became unrecognisable from his younger self. My mate said that Brando's trick was to wear a big floppy hat and to speak fluent French.

As far as I can recall Elvis stopped over at Prestwick airport to refuel the plane
so it is difficult to see how he would have had the time or opportunity to go down to London. But this is a great suggestion isn't it It can run and run.
I do remember around 1958 when in Paris I was seated in the front stalls of the Bouglione Circus and right next to me was a certain unknown French actress called Bridget watching to show also and I said 'Hi Bridget' and she said 'You are an attractive man yes? I replied, I have good contacts in London with a certain film producer for I know you have only made one or two obscure things with obscure titles like 'And God created Women'
So, she took my advice and appeared in 'Doctor at Sea' and the rest is history as they say

really , Id imagine talking another language would draw more attention, but I believe you batman, a big big star but not an EP at that time, my opinion though , just thinking of the Beatles being mobbed with teenagers as Elvis would have been. just cant see it. but if it was, what a lucky man Tommy was that day.

True story - Paul McCartney used to occasionally come into one of the branches of the library service I work for. With Heather and sprog. No mobs, just pleasant chats about videos for under-5s. Celebs only really get mobbed if they hang around on red carpets or pose by limosines.

She was gorgeous! Invited me down to some French resort called St Tropez to swim naked from the beach but my mother always advised me to stay way from strange women

I was embarrassed because I couldn't swim at the time - she did offer to teach me though
