"The Old Bazaar In Cairo"..........Recorded by CLINTON FORD on ORIOLE 45rpm in the mid -1960s.

One could try to get Brian Matthew to play it on his SOUNDS OF THE SIXTIES programme on BBC Radio Two on Saturday mornings........

Default Abdul Abubu Amar ?

Many thanks to Steve Crook and Julian Craster. While I'm in this neck of the woods would either of you know who recorded "Abdul Abubu Amar" (could be the wrong spelling) ? In the meantime I'm off to ebay to search for Clinton Ford. Thanks Again.

Close. It was "Abdul Abulbul Amir"
See poetry archives

I don't know who recorded it though. I expect it's "various artists"

Thanks Again Steve Crook, it was definitely recorded. Ian Dury once picked/played it on a BBC Radio show.

Abdul Abulbul Amir has been recorded by - Frank Crumit, Brendan O'Dowda and Charlie King & Len Wallace.
All versions are available to download on "i-Tunes" - and, apparently, it comes under the heading of 'Irish Songs'...............

DS x.

He was one of the "Various Artists" that performed and/or recorded it

I would have thought that Formby might have been the first Steve but it is a bit before my time. When was the song written?

I don't know. It's probably "Traditional" as it was sung in the music halls for many years by many different people

Default Abdul Abulbul Amir

Well you know it's a multi-cultural society we live in when this tune is classified as an Irish tune. Next thing you know Martin Robbins' "El Paso" will be classified as an east London raga !

In case anyone gets the wrong idea I am in no way complaining. As far as I'm concerned the more cross cultural activity there is the better !

Well that well known Scottish song that was the title song for the film I Know Where I'm Going! (1945) - was really an Irish song
