Not a character as such, but "Ask Elvis" on the Steve Wright Show really tickles me.

The character should also have some resonance for many forum members, being an old-time film actor and musichall act. Try visiting his page and clicking on his memory man act to get an idea.

Count Arthur Strong

You'll either love or hate him.
I've enjoyed listening to CAS. I think he's a throwback to the good old days of wireless comedy. Listening to him you are transported back to the 1950's.
And you remember that most of us have matured and moved on since the 1950s

Before my time but I love to hear recordings of Beryl Reid doing her Monica and Marlene characters.

Beryl was a true natural treasure.

I know All Gas and Gaters started out on tv but I remember hearing the radio versions on Radio Four some years ago.

William Mervyn and Robertson Hare as Newt were utterly brilliant, I have heard a lot of people mention Robertson Hare but William Mervyn is very underated.

I recall seeing him as Mr Rose when I was very small in about 1967 and then of course he went on to play the old gent in "The Railiway Children."

More usually spelt khazi, although various spellings are seen. Apparently derived from the Italian for little house (c.f. casa). The "kh" spelling probably influenced by khaki

I used to like the two characters in the pub discussing life in Week Ending on Radio 4. One was David Jason pre Del Boy the other Bill Wallis, it usually ended with the words "it makes you think". Great satyrical programme, could do with making a comeback.

Alfie from The Clitheroe Kid was a great favourite of mine as was Colonel Bloodknock.

Ah Mr Park - I'm glad you mentioned Alfie from The Clitheroe Kid! I couldn't stand the show (mainly because of the Kid himself) but Alfie Hall used to have me in stitches with his antics.

And I must say I'm a great fan of Count Arthur Strong, although that Memory Man clip was very poor IMO.
He puts me in mind of Rob Wilton, Harry Worth and (dare I say it) Tony Hancock. Some of his gags are lame, but he occasionally comes out with something that has me chuckling for days
