Default Pathe News

I first saw pathe news in 1967 when I saw a Fu Man Chu film. By that time it was on its way out, finishing in 1970 or 71 I believe.

Amaziing to think that movietone news carried on until the eighties they filmed the Charles and Diana wedding.

I remember seeing Paul Mcartneys wedding to Linda on Pathe and Cilla Black I loved it when they would change to colour for a special report from abroad, as a kid I recognised Bob Danvers Walkers famous tones from Take Your Pick.

Who recalls those cinemas in London that showed only newsreeels and cartoons, I would pay good money for that in these days of the soulless multiplexes.

I am aware that the Pathe year to remember videos were released on CD, but is it possible to get Movietone on Dvd,, couldnt see anything on Amazon I do have a three video set on VHS.

You can get them both online. Pathe and Movietone.

You can get a low resolution version for free or you can pay for a higher quality version. Their search facilities and keywords aren't perfect but they're both pretty good

I used to go to all of the newsreel cinemas in the west end and there were quite a few. They were at Baker Street,Studio 2 in Oxford Street,Jacey in the Strand and Marble Arch,Monsignor at Piccadilly Circus,Classic at waterloo station and at Victoria Station. The one at Victoria was the last such cinema and i was at its final performance. In the 1960s you would get i hour of news ,cartoons,Laurel & Hardy and a travelogue for the princely sum of 1/-(5p)Gone but certainly not forgotten.

Leeds had one for years, called The News Cinema, just next to the railway station.
