Al Martino at almost 81 is still in fantastic form. He is touring the U.K. from next week for about a fortnight, I shall be seeing him twice. He had the very first no.1 in this country in 1952 when the charts first began with "Here in my Heart" and still performs it to this day, and may I say, brings the house down with it.
Then there is Tony Martin, who at 95 still does the odd performance, he was married to the late Cyd Charrisse.

Sadly no longer with us but Humphrey Lyttelton lasted until he was 86. I mention him here because they're doing some programmes about him on BBC4

BBC 4 Friday 12th September 21:00 to 22:00
Legends
Humphrey Lyttelton

A profile of the late jazz musician, band leader and broadcaster Humphrey Lyttelton's 60-year career. Louis Armstrong described him as Britain's top trumpeter, but for more than 40 years he was equally well-known for hosting some of the BBC's most successful radio shows, including Radio 2's Best of Jazz and the hugely popular antidote to panel game shows, Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, in which Humph propelled the art of the double entendre to new heights.

BBC 4 Friday 12th September 22:00 to 22:50
Humph's Last Stand
Jazz trumpeter and raconteur Humphrey Lyttelton in a performance at the 2007 HSBC Brecon Jazz Festival, which turned out to be his last ever television recording. With an all star line-up including guest saxophonist Scott Hamilton, it is a set full of sheer wit and superb music.

They will then both be repeated a few times as is usual with BBC4

13th Sept 00:40 - 02:30
13th Sept 23:30 - 00:20
14th Sept 02:10 - 04:00

I think a couple of the Blind Boys of Alabama have been with the group since they started in the late 1930s.

I ordered Humphrey Littleton's autobiography last November before it was released, wether it was finished before he died I don't know but I'm still waiting.

Thanks for that, Steve. I'll try to remember to set myself reminders to watch them.

Well it would appear that the world's oldest musician is a lady called Hadisono Rukinem. She is 112 years old and still performs daily and gets paid for playing an ancient Jawanese xylophone.
