Default Whatever Happened To Pete Murray

Has he retired?

Happy memories of listening to Pete introducing his Open House programme on Radio Two in the seventies.

Of course Pete like many of his contempories was an actor.

I found this interesting snippet on the web.

"Pete Murray was an early DJ on BBC radio and one of the first presenters of Top of the Pops and other "popular music" shows such as "Six-Five Special" on BBC TV.

But before any of that he did some work as a film extra and was spotted in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) in the scene in the BBC Bunker. He's one of the last people to walk down the corridor as Clive Candy arrives to make his broadcast".

EDIT: I see that that info has been posted here before.

Pete Murray along with Peter Maddren and Geofrrey Everett cstarted life as disc jockeys on radio Luxembourg. I do not know what happened to Peter maddren but i believe Everett owned radio Luxembourg when it closed its doors

I am very pleased to announce that Pete murray is still alive and living with his wife Trish in Wimbledon. These days he does the occasional after dinner speech sometimes on cruise liners. In the past he worked in films with the likes of Marlene Dietrich and whilst working with Radio Luxembourg out in Luxembourg he moved back to London still working with Luxy and I engineered all his programmes. Sadly Peter Madren and my dear old boss Geoffrey everett are no longer with us. Geoff was General Manager of Radio Luxembourg(London) and the parent company was R.T.L (Radio Tele Luxembourg).
If you go to 208 It was Great Radio Luxembourg - Home and click on 'Sounds' it will open a juke box on which you can hear a lot of shows and presenters from the past.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I always remember Bob Stewart's absolute hatred of all things punk rock, and the venom in which he'd slag off this new musical genre was quite bewildering. I imagined him to be from the slim Elvis Presley era, and having learned to tolerate innovative 60s pop culture and 70s Glam Rock through gritted teeth, I think The Sex Pistols was just the last straw!

The drifting frequency of Radio Luxemburg is perhaps a fond memory for many of us as we listened under the bedclothes through an earpiece on a tinny trannie. I remember some of the 1970s sponsors like Christopher Collins cosmetics and Peter Stuyvesant king size fags. The 208 radio shows and the pop music seemed so much more full of life in those days, but then as a youth back then, so was I!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

What about dear old Horace Batchelor and his infra draw method?

He was at the Rank 'Charm School' at the same time as Christopher Lee.

I've seen a picture of the pair of them practicing fencing in 1946!

And then we had dan Dare and Professor Peabody. Another very popular show was the one sponsored by Pye "People Are Funny" when the contestants had to do extraordinary things, often making a fool of themselves in the process and at the end they won of of Pye's famous "Black Boxes" Them were the days
