Default Who remembers dj tony brandon

Anyone out there remember Tony Brandon who broadcasted on Radio One and Radio Two in the sixties and sevenites. I remember him being on in the luncthimes circa 1971 1972. He was also an acotr a humorous man with jolly patter. He had a daily gardening feature where he adopted the nom de plume of Ebenezer Growmore. I was off school in 1972 with the flue and Brandon was very good company every day.

Due to needle time restrictions many artists recorded sessions especally for the Radio One and Two shows. Brandons show was no exeption and I recall sessions by The John Fox Orchestra.

He moved to a breakast slot in 1978 and once again he was a comforting voice to me during a bad perioed when I worked for H Samuel the jeweller at age 18, I hated the job and I would awake early because I was wondering what the working day would bring, so put Tony show on from five every morning. I think he was replaced by Ray Moore.

Around about this time he starred in a sitcom on Radio Two, dont remember the title but it was a real curiosity becuase his delivery and inflections were very simioilar to Tony Hancock.

Brandon also did impersonations and turned up on ITV.s "Who Do You do." from time to time.

Still with us I think.

I certainly do. I think he was one of the original intake of new presenters when Radios One and Two started in 1967. Nice to know he's still going!

Yes Tony is still with us and as we speak (errr type) he's visiting friends in Australia with his wife. Otherwise he would have been at the great Radio Luxembourg reunion in Luxembourg on the 2nd August (2 -08).

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

From what information I can glean from the net ,he still seems to be active In broadcasting , albeit local ,and at the tender age of 75

Tony Brandon did the most wonderful Jimmy Young impression - truly one of the best voices I've heard.
The last time I saw him was in Murder At The Vicarage in 1986, in which he had a tiny role as a yokel when the vicar was sent on a wild goose chase.
Very funny man.
