    Thanks for the link Daisy

There's also The Darling Buds Of May - The Complete Series 1-3 for £11

The Vicar Of Dibley Complete for £12

    and Alien Quadrilogy for £9

That Alien boxset cost me £70 on day of release!! Mind you, if I'd have rented the movies every time I'd watched them it would have been a few hundred by now. Definitely worth £9 of anyone's money for 4 directors cuts as and all the juicy extras!

Off topic question here. I'm curious to know where the term vanilla comes from when describing a bare-bones DVD release? Why vanilla? Anyone know?

    vanilla:

In information technology, vanilla (pronounced vah-NIHL-uh ) is an adjective meaning plain, Lacking adornments or special features; basic or ordinary:. The unfeatured version of a product is sometimes referred to as the vanilla version. The term is based on the fact that vanilla is the most popular or at least the most commonly served flavor of ice cream. Or, as Eric Raymond, editor of The New Hacker's Dictionary , puts it, the default ice cream.

Interesting, the tech origins of "vanilla". Here in NYC, if one went back to pre-internet days "vanilla" meant white or not funky, unhip and safe. Probably still does in some neighbourhoods .

I don't think it's the film as that is just hitting cinemas just now. Looks like the complete TV series (double DVD)

    The difference being...?

I'm not sure how the 2010 remake translates into a "title stealing version?" I guess you didn't care for it?

The current DVD edition (absolute bargain, incidentally) and the old OOP DVD edition. No other difference AFAIK.

He wouldn't be the only one thinking it's a pale copy of the original....this from The New Yorker.

Thanks Penfold, I didn't realise the 2 disc edition was also the complete series, it's a steal at £3.99 then.

As far as title stealing goes I mean Mel Gibson's new version could have been called anything but chose to use Edge of Darkness most likely because of the quality associated with the series.

I'm in no hurry to see the Gibson version as I'm sure it won't hold a candle to its predecessor.

Now out of stock - next cheapest appears to be The Hut for £4:85. If you hang on until 9am on Wednesday they're taking 10% off everything until 9pm excluding games consoles.
