A good bargain, without a doubt.

Shame about all the 'contractual edits' though...

So true ruined most of the episodes as they not only took the music out they also took the scenes out with them,I am so happy I saved my home recordings of them now.

Default Lights, camera....cut!

Thanks Modular,
You will have saved some anguish here for us bargain hunters.
It's frustrating to know that you can buy butchered versions of these series, even from the likes of the BBC who are usually very high on product quality.
Obviously doesn't do what it says on the tin!
Regards,
Edward G.

Yes, it's annoying, isn't it Edward.

My biggest gripe isn't so much the edits themselves. It's the fact the buying public are left 'in the dark' about them.

Unfortunately, many commercial DVDs have fairly small profit margins. Music (in particular) within a series to be released can often be very expensive to clear (copyright wise), usually to the point that it would be commercially un-viable to release the title at all. So 'contractual edits' are sometimes necessary.

In the case of Only Fools & Horses, these edits have been particularly badly done, with entire scenes removed from some episodes.

The irony with this particular series DVD release is that it's sold well enough over the years to the point they could have afforded to pay for the music rights and still make a profit!

As much as I love the series, I've always decided to stick with off-air recordings myself.

Cheers Modular,
Does anyone else have any warnings on TV series on DVD offers that are similarly edited down because of the music licensing costs or similar? It could help forum members from being disappointed. ...
