Default Sounds great...but watch out for CDWow

I ordered a box set from CDWoW last year (using up my Nectar points!), and it arrived fairly quickly, which was good. Unfortunately, the reason why CDWOW are so cheap is because they are from Hong Kong, and use Australian regional coded DVD's, which also seem to be Region 2. This shouldn't be a problem, but out of the 6 disc's in the set, 2 refused to work beyond the Warner Brothers title page. I've had the problem once with a Region 1 box set, but overall I get few problems, so this was a pain rather than a disaster. It was replacing the set which showed up CDWOW's problems.

I tried to get the box set replaced via the website, but the returns page simply refused to work, and I had to email them directly. After hearing nothing, I emailed them again, only to be told that the replacement had meant to be sent, but someone had forgotten. When they did send it, (from Cyprus), at least one of the other discs refused to work (fortunately, I was able to make up a working set from the two I had been sent), and only then did they give me an envelope for returning the non-working original.

They were pretty apologetic about the whole thing, and sent the replacement very quickly once they realised their mistake, but it really put me off buying stuff from them again.

They are quick, and they are seemingly cheap (although my box set of the West Wing was only about a pound or two cheaper than buying a Region 2 set from Amazon, with free delivery of course for both companies), but its not worth the hassle of getting a disc which causes problems, and than having a problem getting a replacement. If you want Region 1 discs, then Caimanzone.co.uk is much more reliable, and for Region 2, between the supermarkets and online, you should still able to pick up Bond for a decent price. Its £6.98 at Amazon, £5.99 at Play - its worth an extra quid or two, just for peace of mind.

Australia is region 4. Japan however is region 2, but uses NTSC
The rest of SE Asia & east Asia (including Hong Kong) is region 3

Perhaps I should have been clearer - CDWOW is based in Hong Kong (thats where my package was sent from), but the DVD set I bought says 'Australia' on the back (Region 4). However, CDWOW's website clearly states that the set should be regarded as both Regions 2 & 4. This might be true, but even a dedicated multiregional DVD player (like my Eltax) can have problems. This is obviously not the fault of CDWOW, but its something to consider if you've paid out for something which might or might not work on your player.

It does sound like they got it wrong. But I have some DVDs which are marked as being regions 2 & 4. The usual region logo has a 2 & a 4 in it.

My multiregion player just plays them all regardless of any region coding. It doesn't need any codes entered and doesn't even tell me if there is any region coding on the DVD

They currently have a massive multi-million-pound fine hanging over them from an action brought by the BPI.

This might be of interest to those who like watching the extras on the James Bond DVDs ,with regards to Die Another Day UE about 2hrs of extras that were available on the previous SE,which are not on the present UE and therefore are missing.

All the other Bond UE's had the extras from the SE's crossed over to the UE's except DAD plus new stuff added.

The UE release includes a few new featurettes, but omits several extras from the SE release (Inside Die Another Day featurettes, trailers & tv spots, music video by Madonna and more).

I would advise to either keep the previous SE or buy another as there are pretty cheap now because of the UE release.

Check out these two links below for further info.......

Below's link is a very detail look at the Bond DVDs and their contents and is worth checking out and bookmarking too.
