I am curtailing my DVD purchases because we had so many between us at Christmas that it's going to take months before we get through them all, and apart from that I've got a hefty tax bill coming up and unfortunately they won't take DVDs in lieu of payment!

One thing though, I've got a spare legit copy of Colonel Blimp so if the powers that be want to organise another competition I will be happy to send it to the winner!

Well they aren't passing on any savings - a typical dvd box set price comparison, HMV £49.99 Play £31.99
I've bought things from HMV were they were the cheapest, it can vary widely depending on the item.

It's not only play.com who restrict where they sell to - I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to buy goods from America in the "Used and New" section of Amazon only to be told, just prior to checkout, that the company won't deliver to the UK.
I have often tried to buy from the "Used and New" section at amazon.de and amazon.com and got the same reply by the system. But most of the people who are selling only a few DVDs as a private person don't see at the system that they can click the buttom and accept "International shipping".

So I have contacted them (you can do this over amazon as well) and most of them DID mail to me (living in Spain) without any problem.
So: Don't hesitate - only ask!

I have relatives in England who have offered to do the same for me.
I'll give play.com a miss and look for bargains elsewhere. There are a lot of DVD's and books I'd like that are not available in Australia. Trouble is that just when you think you've found a bargain item overseas, the postal charges to Australia get added on and at todays conversion rate for the Aussie dollar you're left with little value for money. If I REALLY need an item I'll buy it but there are many others that are on my casual want list.

Cheers

Dave.

Dave, I hail from Sydney but am presently living in Indonesia. I order anything that I can't get from Australian DVD online suppliers from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. I have never had a problem although I would prefer not to have pay those shipping rates! I have everything sent to my Sydney address (mail is unreliable in Indonesia) and pick them up when I am in Australia.

Otherwise, I use DevotedDVD in Melbourne who offer very competitive pricing and free shipping in Oz. Of course, they don't have everything but the Umbrella releases of UK TV shows have been a boon to me.

Hope this helps.

From Graeme in the Tropics!
