Well, they're a cheap option (at least, if you shop around they are), and I tend to wait for box sets to appear rather than buy individual items because the latter always seem so expensive. I know, I know, I'm a cheapskate! I always feel cheated if I've had to pay more than a fiver per film, which is probably not an appropriate attitude for a film buff!

.....mine has gin in it.....

It depends what you want. You can usually get a reasonable, viewable copy for under a fiver. But if you want a top quality copy, with lots of good, interesting extras on the DVD, especially for a rare film, then you might have to shell out a bit more.
