I have purchased the box set of The Invisible man, the 1957 tv series. There are 26 episodes on 5 dvds and although I have only viewed a couple of episodes I am delighted, the series is a treasure house of players we all love to see. There's a very young Derren Nesbit, Edward jud, Edwin Richfield , Denis Price, Eric Pohlman, Martin Benson,and that's just for starters.Considering this series was made 50yrs ago it stands the test of time, ok the special effects are of the time but very well thought out. The price was £23.99 from play.com. Do yourselves a favour, cancel your Sky subscription and get it bought. All the best.

The existing set is good value, but the picture quality has a slightly blurry, NTSC look, the opening credits are re-edited (compated to the episodes I've got from the 1980s ITV re-runs), and the end credits are all annoyingly truncated.

I'll look forward to the Network set - the show itself is pretty good - very like the half-hour Danger Man series, which shares much of the same talent, only with a see-through hero.

Ralph Smart created this seminal series I believe. It was the first British TV show to be filmed in 35mm too, I have read. Ralph Smart seems to have been sadly neglected by TV historians. Is there much about him on the DVD set?

I'm trying to recall where I read that. It was probably one of those conditional statements the internet excels in like,
"The Invisible Man was the first TV series called The Invisible Man to be filmed on 35mm stock".

I just came across this wonderful snippet about my mate Ralph:

There's one further amazing story connected with this first episode of Danger Man; the second unit director on the show shot some location and background stuff and sent the dailies back to the editing room at Elstree. Ralph Smart looked at them, hated them, and called up the second unit director and said 'Look, these are terrible, you'll never be a film director' and then he fired him. The name of the second unit director? John Schlesinger
