Wow! What a great tip! I just ordered it. Under £20 even after adding in Transatlantic shipping. Thanks very much for letting us know.

Anyone buying the set might want to have a go at trying to figure out the series' behind-the-scenes puzzle. This what the so-called Missing Episode, cancelled by official request as it contravened the Official Secrets Act, was about. Like many series, Sandbaggers had smething of an ongoing story, so it may be possible to trace the relevant storyline from developments in adjacent episodes. The last series is credited to other writers, after series creator Ian Mackintosh's mysterious July 79 disappearance (his light plane went into the sea off Alaska). The missing episode was part of Series 2, broadcast in spring 1980, so any clues would be found here. (Whether the cancellation was connected to the change in government at that time, I don't know.) The original script proposals and series 'bible' are on the DVD set as PDFs, but any sensitive documents will be long gone - soon after Mackintosh's disappearance, the safe in his high-tech home was burgled. As far as I know, nothing further has emerged about his own SIS liaison work while in the Navy which he based the series on, what he was doing in Alaska, or why no trace was ever found of the plane or occupants. But considering some of the tidbits broadcast in this no-nonsense series (such as naming the agency behind the JFK and MLK assassinations), whatever was in the missing episode must be quite the secret.
