i've tried that one already but cannot find a picture at all? the house in question looks a lot like the fictional 'geap manor' in 'crooked house'

No that was on the seafront I believe.

The big house was enormous, maybe not on Thanet which is a fairly compact little corner of our Island....

Geap Manor is Dorney Court near Windsor. It's been in loads of stuff but I've not seen the Red Dahlia to know if it's the same house.
