My brother and his partner have asked me to identify a couple of films. Here's the first one - I'll post the second in a moment.

Many thanks in advance - I won't claim the credit, promise.

"a film with Peter Cushing where he ran a curiosity shop and there were a number of stories leading from customers visiting it?"

I have a particular fondness for Amicus' horror anthologies. If you like this one Dave then you should also see Asylum, Tales From The Crypt, The House That Dripped Blood and Dr Terror's House of Horrors - all rollicking good fun

Another good Amicus anthology film is The Torture Garden (1967) with Burgess Meredith as Dr Diablo and good cast which also included Peter Cushing and Jack Palance.

A couple of corrections / additions to the above list (off the top of my head - I wrote my Doctoral Thesis on Amicus, but I haven't looked at it for a few years...)

Monster Club is not an Amicus film - but was produced by Milton Subotsky (one of the two producers behind the company).

In addition, Scream and Scream Again (1970) is an Amicus film (a co-production with AIP) - one of their best.

Also, The Birthday Party (1968) is probably an Amicus film - it was certainly produced by Subotsky and Rosenberg. but its actual status is unclear. I must read the recent Little Shoppe of Horrors to see if there is a definitive answer

City of the Dead is also an Amicus film in all but name (but amicus hadn't been formed at the time Subotsky/Rosenberg made it).

    Well... Sort of...

IIRC, Rosenberg and Subotsky came on board part way through (pre-)production - and Subotsky re-wrote the script. But the director of this marvellous film is a member of this group, so maybe this question could be asked in his thread?

It's rather different to the later Amicus-proper films (b&w, not set in the UK), and indeed the only 'Gothic' in their line up is the underrated ~~And Now The Screaming Starts.

Not that any of this stopped me including it in my thesis - for several pages at that!

I am watching this one just now. I'd forgotten what an effective ghost story it is, although it's a bit too brightly lit IMHO.

According to here (link Below) The Monster Club (1980) is an Amicus film plus you need to add

I didn't include any of the new Amicus movies, as Amicus Entertainment and Amicus Productions, for me, are two seperate entities. However I enjoyed Stuck and is well worth an evenings viewing. Yet to see the remake of It's Alive, anyone else seen it?

The Monster Club definitely isn't an Amicus production (I think it's a Sword and Sorcery production). Subotsky made it after splitting with Rosenberg. The trouble with imbd is that you don't need to be an authoritative source to edit it.

It's either Sword & Sorcery, or a CHIPS Production under Jack Gill. Certainly it was for ITC, Lorde Grade's production company.
