Absolutely fascinating material. One could spend a day, or two, or more poring over these pages and 'reliving' studio history over 40 years ago. As such a comprehensive list of studios and related details, these pages can save a researcher a lot of time. I am so very glad you saved these magazines.



And...thank you for taking the time to share these and all the information in the other threads on studios, such as Pinewood. I very much enjoyed your anecdotes about working there, as well as those from others. Valued history.

I was happy to see Southall Studios listed as they always seem to be the little known and 'forgotten' studios! We have tried to rectify this on our site.....

You say these are for the 1950s, but do you know the actual year? I see that John Davies is listed on the board at Pinewood and Lady Yule isn't. I think she left them in the mid to late 1940s and then Davies, the accountant, joined when they had financial trouble, particularly after films like Caesar and Cleopatra (1945) which went way over budget.

I've been looking for decent photo material on Walton for ages - thanks Stephen.

Looking at a present day aerial photo I am astounded that Walton studios (not themselves pretty but surrounded by rather pleasant trees according to your photo) were replaced by the sort of hideous urban development that only the 1960s could have been guilty of spawning.

I sometimes think that town planners should be taken out and shot.

Here is a Google Street View image of what your old 1968 address of Shevon Way, Brentwood, Essex, looks like today, John. It doesn't look long enough to have a number 107 anymore, but maybe Google only photographed half the street as they usually do. Left click with mouse on white bar at top of image to enlarge it.
