I've had several recurring nightmares in the past which are pretty much gone. But here they are:
1. Being awake when it suddenly became very dark. I find myself searching for a lamp or wall switch of some kind but no light ever comes. I'm just wandering around, lost in this bizarre eternal darkness.
Then I wake up.
2. Monster in the cellar of the house I grew up in. This may sound common, I don't know. I find myself downstairs until I hear a creaking of a hidden door which opens and out it comes. I race up the stairs and bolt the door shut. By the time I am upstairs, the thing disappears.
Then I wake up.
3. Similar to #2, but in our attic, which was quite large and roomy.
These stopped coming as of 5 years ago (that recent!).
I have had some pleasant dreams though.
One is where I am watching a very old movie on television. This one feels very real. Maybe I'll get the DVD of it someday. Guess who is in it. :)
I've had dreams of being in several different houses, one of which is built entirely of stone but it's not a castle. These are actually pleasant dreams for me - maybe because they're about discovery and exploration.
That's no good if you keep waking up before the dream gets interesting

Hi,
My last contribution to this thread, I noted that it was a one off dream that I wrote about. But as a child, I do recall that I had a recurring dream. I had better explain that my maternal grandmother had a flower and salad stall in Holloway Road. Opposite the Lord Nelson pub. Somehow, I likened her barrow to a train. She was featured somewhere, and one or two other relations. I also went on and dreamed that the railway line, or whatever the train travelled on, went through the back yards of the locality where I lived. I do not know why. Perhaps my grandmother was getting things ready for her stint on the Holloway Road pavement market. But overground trains did go at the back of the local houses, and we were sandwiched in between two tube stations.
Weird.

I've had a few dreams about Torin, but can't really go into them here (to respect him)
I use to have a similar re-occuring dream- I would walk off the street down some stairs into what might have been a basement flat,I would then see people I know sat arranged in a semi circle against a bay window, but they could not see me, I would then get this awful feeling and make my way quickly to the other end of 'room'
there was another set of stairs which climbed into the street, but this street is all wrong, it was in the past or something. This dream suddenly stopped a few years ago.
They say a re-occuring dream is your mind or body trying to tell you something is wrong somewhere. Its usually totally unrelated to the dream, such as an invading bug for example.
Doubting and anxious about the future. Am I right?
Fight or flight ... in your case discretion is better than valor.
Perhaps Mr. Howdy lived up there.
Staying away from people and places which is none of your business has led you to be cautious.
I wonder what life-changing event occurred 5 years ago.
There is security represented by old movies.
No chance of a Big Bad Wolf blowing that house down.
Not so weird; it was your world that you were making sense of.
So, a few years ago there was a change in your circumstance so that being noticed was no longer important to you.
I agree it has to to with an unresolved issue and I also think the elements of the dream can be very much relevant to finding a solution.
Hi,
Possibly true Heinrich. But the reason why I compared the stall/barrow to a train, is possibly because there was at least one occasion when the stall was being wheeled back to my grandmother's house, I was on it. One of the metal flower vases could be compared to a steam train's funnel. So I imagined I was driving a train. That would contribute to my dream. But what is interesting, is that the last time I had this dream, I somehow knew it was the last time that I would experience it.
