    ceefax:

Liam Gallagher is set to make a film about the final years of The Beatles.

The former Oasis frontman is planning to adapt THE LONGEST COCKTAIL PARTY, a memoir written by the Beatles' "house hippy" in the 1960s, Richard DiLello.

The biopic is about the "wild rise and fall" of the band's record company Apple between the heady days of 1968 and the break-up in 1970.

The singer's older brother Noel is also said to be a fan of the book, describing it as "brilliant".

Why not? He's based his career so far on copying them

I wouldn't have thought he was capable of planning so much as his next visit to the barbers let alone a film. I think "planning" means "paying someone else to"

His brother is tiresome too! He used up his best offerings trying to be a legend by wasting them on b sides and presuming he was above millionaires writers block! I've never heard a band rip themselves off as much as oasis-not even the kinks!

I'm kind of impressed that they've read a book between them....

Apparently they often quote from 'peter and jane 2b' and 'topsy and tim go to the swimming baths'!

Is that Peter & Jane 2b or Peter & Jane Not 2b?

2b or not 2b-that is the question i'm sure everyone expected my answer to be? Oh well-at least we're on a winner with their next album title!

    Said Hamlet to Ophelia

I'll draw a sketch of thee.

What kind of pencil shall I use?

Fill in the last line yourself, I'm already embarrassed I even typed that.

If we could just get by the lets dis the Gallaghers, if this comes off, it should be pretty good. DiLello's book is an excellent insider's account of what went on behind the doors of number 3 Savile Row, told with complete honesty.

Oi! Some of my favourite pop stars are common and utterly overrated!

As for the film, ultimately it's a biopic so it'll be somewhere between surprisingly good and teeth-grindingly terrible.

As for the book, I got a copy in a remainders bookshop when I was about 15 and just couldn't get into it - I think it dealt too much with other bands such as (IIRC) White Trash on Apple, rather than just the lovable Beatles ... I wish I hadn't given it away though, as it's not really a Beatles book for 15 year-olds, and I'd probably have liked it a couple of years later..

Quite right. If by 'planning' it means he is going to fund the right people to produce it, it should make for an interesting watch. I wonder how much involvement Paul, Ringo, Olivia and Yoko will have, if any.

The book is an excellent account of Apple and the back room staff. It features some great cinematic scenes such as the US Hell's Angles faction who camp in the offices. I think casting will be key to this film, Rhys Ifans as Derek Taylor?

Some people under thirty to play the Beatles. Let's hope that Gallagher doesn't put a clause in the contract saying he has to play Lennon.

Worthy and justified this subject, could be a very good film.

But surely not with these two bell-ends at the helm.

    Frame.

That nearly made me spill my brew...the first time I've seen bell-end written down...under used word in my opinion, over taken by knob-end in recent times. But yes, one does worry about Youngman Liam having anything to do with it...or will it be his redeeming moment?

His redeeming moment was Definitely Maybe. Since then he has been camped out in undisputed bell-end territory.
