    Hi.

It seems the gunman called moat who has killed three people is just about five miles away from me if he is in the house they are holding up at the minute. The violence in the country is shocking now.

Fingers crossed they have him in custody soon. My thoughts are with the families of those killed and hurt including the policeman who has been injured. He has said he won`t stop killing until he is caught.

Apparently he`s not in the house so he`s still on the run.

I would be curious to know who sanctioned his release from Prison last Thursday?.

Am I correct in thinking that he had issued threats to his girlfriend via a Facebook account?. When will those responsible for releasing people like Moat be held personally responsible?

Who would you like to blame? Moat had completed his sentence so was released just like any other prisoner. The Prison Service did not have the power to detain him further. However, prison officers did alert the police on the day of his release about the possible danger to his ex-girlfriend. They could not have done more than they did.

The police are to be investigated into their handling of the warning from the prison officers.

Rothbury is one of my favorite haunts in the summer, a beautiful place, but the houses and buildings in the hills are dotted about miles apart, the police will have a job to find him if he has found a hide out up there.

That could be the obvious outcome. But he has three little girls so hopefully he won`t do that and he will surrender for thier sakes.

In no way am I looking for anyone to blame. It is just a fear that innocent people have been put at risk again by something that may have been preventible.Naturally I am not familliar with the release of Prisoners but I would expect that he had to undergo some form of Psychological assessment prior to his release. If this is correct, could the person who sanctioned his release re-assure us that Moat had simply deceived him/her and that Moat despite his violent past, suddenly snapped upon his release having exhibited no signs of mental breakdown whatsoever.

He issued the threats after release on Friday, and he never posted an outright threat just rants about being screwed over by the police and his ex.

Not usually. As a bog standard prisoner he would simply be released at the end of his sentence. If there had been evidence of any psychiatric disorder, steps could have be taken to have him evalutated and, if necessary, detained under the Mental Health Act, but apparently he did not present in such a way so was not under the care of the prison psychiatric services.

I wonder how many other Prisoners have Threatened to take revenge on someone when Released'

I would hazard a Guess thats its not uncommon' especially amongst Criminals with a record for violence...

Must be a difficult Task for the Police to know which ones to take seriously......unfortunately this one wasn't.

It is a horrendous crime that he has commited, and my sympathy is with those of the deceased man and those who are injured (including the policeman.)

And spend the rest of his existance in jail ? The police statement that there is still hope for him was just desperation - Moat's life is over and he knows it. I just hope they get to him before another person is harmed because he is now, to a large extent, above the law in terms of consequences.

Am I the only one who (despite myself, I admit) is strangely impressed - heartened even - by Mr Moat's ongoing ability to evade capture?

I know he's a murderous scumbag and so on. It's just that....

Perhaps it's not him that heartens me so much as the police's inability to catch someone despite throwing a scary (and rather hysterical) amount of resources at the problem. The northeast seems to have turned into a police state: helicopters darken the sky (only some of which belong to Sky News); snipers on every rooftop; machine guns at the school gates.... Yet still Moat's at large.

We live in a country where you can't break wind without the government recording it and filing it away to be used at your show trial some time in the future. In that context, it's oddly comforting to know that one bloke with a rudimentary knowledge of camping and a lot of countryside at his disposal can keep them on the run for best part of a week.

    Shame about the murder, though.

It appears he is a bit of an outdoor expert and can hunt for rabbit and fish. So he can live

in the wild for a bit.

I suspect he will be in hiding holding someone (or family) at gunpoint in their house.

    Terrifying

Can you believe we've even had a hoax caller to throw more confusion on an already baffling investigation! Some people... Moat has certainly had help but it's doubtful that he would stay undetected for very long outdoors. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is hiding him or if like windthrop says, he is holding some family under siege. I hope they catch him soon without any further casualties or fatalities.

It annoys me the way the police and media refer to him respecfully as "Mr Moat", as if he was a bank clerk who had been fiddling the books, intead of what he is, murderous scum.
