A friend lent me this series on DVD. I settled down to watch the first episode and within a few minutes Gina McKee appeared - IMO the worst actress it's been my misfortune to view. I struggled on through the next 20 minutes or so and that was enough for me - I had to switch off! Awful rubbish.![]()
I think Gina McKee is a beautiful and talented actress - and she was as excellent as always in the very under-rated Vera.
Hi.
I thought this was quite good. I am intrigued by Vera (and her dislike of children), and would love to see her character develop.
Seeing the Angel of the North hovering over the houses, I do feel sorry for the poor souls when they open their curtains in the morning to that!
Not keen on Gina McKee myself, definately not a bad actress, but just not my cup of tea.
xx
Vera is back tonight. I for one am looking forward to it - a bit of an acquired taste, maybe. And a shock to find a moody, interesting detctive show not filmed in a Scandanavian language!
Got unfair criticism last time from, I suspect, people who are only willing to accept women detctives if they are lovely to look at. IMO this has an excellent complex bit of character work from the great Brenda B, evocative north east location photography and plots/dialogue at least worthy of Frost or Foyle.
I like Brenda Blethyn and think she is very talented - but I could not warm to this series at all. Not Brenda's fault - more to do with the plots - or lack of. Have never heard of Gina McKee
Am i in the minority by thinking the first two episodes in this series were pretty damm good, superior to series 1, the accent isnt needling me like it was in s1
Brenda is a fabulous actress.
