I have had this in mind for a long while but kept thinking it wasn't good enough for a thread. As I like to be creative with my contributions here, further ideas have come to mind that will hopefully make it more interesting. Rather than just give lists of episode titles, I've decided to screencap those I have on DVD and copy plot summaries, or loglines, from the liner notes. The descriptions may bring back a few memories too.

I think billy farmer might be good at finding more examples so I will dedicate this thread to him
and, of course, wearysloth who will find these captures very useful for his Actors Compendium.

The first episode of Danger UXB (1979) & the 18th (production order) of Man in a Suitcase, from 1967

Danger UXB - Dead Man's Shoes

Autumn 1940. The great blitz has taken London by surprise, hundreds of civilians have been killed and thousands more are made homeless every night.

Brian Ash, a young Royal Engineer Officer, finds himself posted to a bomb disposal company, hastily assembled to combat a new and terrible menace: the hundreds of unexploded bombs that are coming close to paralysing the whole city.

Strange, terrifying events are shattering the calm of the village in which McGill is making inquiries which draw sullen resentment and suspicion on all sides. Farms have been burned, cattle hamstrung, machinery smashed, old men beaten up. But why?

There was also an episode of The Twilight Zone called Dead Man's Shoes (1962), later remade as Dead Woman's Shoes with Helen Mirren.

Man in a Suitcase (left) shares another episode title here, this time with The Mind of Mr. J. G. Reeder:

Man in a Suitcase - Find the Lady

Who is the Signora a dying man has pleaded with him to find? This is uppermost in McGill's mind as he waits in his hotel room for a man who has vowed to kill him. And as he waits the tension rises.

A debutante is spirited away just as she is being presented at Buckingham Palace. It is not the first such disappearance, and is unlikely to be the last: there is alarm in High Places. Mr. Reeder suspects a dastardly traffic ...

Find the Lady has been a popular choice for many episode titles over the years. Inevitably, and tragically, these include several Lost Shows: The Sky Larks, Compact, Orlando and two different episodes of Dixon of Dock Green. However, The Man in Room 17 and Softly, Softly versions do survive. They could easily have perished, like so many other programmes from that era. Shoestring, The Good Guys and Birds of a Feather also included Find the Lady.

Any other examples of Episodes with the Same Title, illustrated or not, will be very welcome additions to my collection.

Really don't think there's anything remarkable here! These are pretty standard idioms and so will turn up again and again.

Why not start a thread about episodes of TV series that both have a scene with a table and chairs? Or the remarkable coincidence of two shows having a man in the leading role?

Why exaggerate it's importance? I didn't say it would be as ambitious as the 'Sgt. Pepper' thread, or 'Getting to Know You', did I? If you'd bothered to pay (more) attention to the introduction you will have noticed I had thought of a couple of things that might "make it more interesting" than a tiresome list (though you haven't expressed the same contempt for others' Title threads). Even if the original idea was rubbish, wearysloth can put the captures to good use for his Compendium, as he has done before:

Aveleyman - Portrait of a Lady: Proposals

Maybe one day I can do the same for the identically-titled episodes of Sam and Edward and Mrs. Simpson?

Why not start a thread about episodes of TV series that both have a scene with a table and chairs? Or the remarkable coincidence of two shows having a man in the leading role?
Unfairly cruel and over the top.

Well, I think this is an interesting notion for a thread and in fact will go a step further by having the same, or practically the same, episode title within the same series:

DOCTOR WHO generally has individual titles for each episode nowadays and did so before, from 1963-1966. This is episode five of "The Web Planet" (tx: 13.03.1965). Jacqueline Hill is the human in the middle

They almost did it again for an eight episode story in 1968

And then again in 1974, although the rest of this six part story was called "Invasion of the Dinosaurs". Presumably they wanted to keep the secret of the monsters from the viewers, but I think it had been blown by the Radio Times special which came out a while before this was transmitted. The story was originally in colour, but this was another one the BBC junked in its original form

Another go with a familiar title, this being episode four of "The Romans" (tx: 06.02.1965). Peter Diamond and William Russell have a fight while Jacqueline Hill and Derek Francis watch

Then we got a whole seven episode story with the same title in 1970.

DOCTOR WHO has a bit of an excuse for using the same episode titles as it has been running for a long time, but then the same cannot be said of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA:

    Season 1, tx: 22.03.1965

    Season 3, 01.01.1967

Not a very original title, but there are many folk who would argue just about every episode of VOYAGE is the same anyway!

No screen caps but Dial A Deadly Number was used by Roger Marshall for an episode of The Avengers and by Brian Clemens for his 1970s series Thriller.

'Where There's A Will' is one that's cropped up a few times in comedies, when inheritance has been the subject matter.

Thanks to those who've been supportive about this thread, and for your contributions. Along with Dead Man's Shoes, Dial a Deadly Number is my favourite title so far (thanks to Dandy Fosdyke). I know the Thriller episode very well but have yet to see The Avengers one, which has a fantastic cast. Billy's inclusion of that May to December capture was timely as I'd just seen Anton Rodgers and Lesley Dunlop in the last two episodes of Murder Most English, from many years earlier.

It didn't occur to me when I responded first time round but, of course, I've done something similar with http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/br...eous-sets.html (and individual threads for other shows). In fact, I am currently planning a 'Sitcom Special', which will include the opening shot of a Robin's Nest episode with nothing else but tables and chairs!

The Man Outside is the title that gave me the idea for the thread. I must have
seen these two episodes within a short space of time, unlike my first examples.

This shot's from The Baron (filmed in September 1966). Steve Forrest and Sue Lloyd are on their way to an inquest in
Scotland after Donald Douglas has died in a mysterious car crash. This is actually Stow-in-the-Wold, Gloucestershire:

The Baron - The Man Outside

Logline: The loss of an historic ring leads The Baron to gangster drama in Scotland and a plan to wreck Britain's economy.

While in the Budgie episode, title character Adam Faith settles down, with his Fulham F.C. mug and a biscuit,
to watch The Big Match, presented by Brian Moore. West Ham's Clyde Best is about to score against Spurs:

Unfortunately, girlfriend Hazel (Lynn Dalby) switches the television off to have a row with him so he misses the goal

Budgie - The Man Outside (1972)

Logline: Budgie treats Charlie Endell [played by Iain Cuthbertson] to a free ticket to a football match.
While parking up, someone takes a potshot at Charlie with a firearm and Budgie is hit in the shoulder.

A great episode. The duo escape to the house of Philip Stone and Joan Hickson and forbid them and daughter Susan Glanville from leaving the front room. The previous episode was called The Outside Man, but that's another story ...

Well, I think this is a great idea for a thread so bravo for starting it, cornershop. Very informative, and it might highlight series some of us might have never seen or forgotten about. There's room for all kinds of threads relating to television, right?

Many Thanks, Emma, for that wonderful post, and to didi-5 for being very much on the same wavelength. I'd like to think this thread will encourage people to see these programmes. In my case, Gerald's image of The Creature , from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was striking enough for me to consider buying the series. All the episodes of this and The Time Tunnel are available for less than £30 each, which is excellent value.

A while ago CBS Drama broadcast episode 18 of series 3 of Falcon Crest instead of episode 1 of series 8. Why? Because both had the same title, the unmemorable Changing Times and the distributors of the show didn't notice they'd sent an episode from five series back. This caused such an outcry on the show's British Facebook page (yes, there is one!) that when they next re-ran it they made sure they'd got the right episode from the States, much to the satisfaction of viewers who, ahem!, may have been aiming to record every episode. I may have been one of them...

    GHOST SQUAD had one:

    Then so did THE SAINT:

In the first story, he was Derrick De Marney, in the second, John Robinson.

You're ahead of me with this one, Gerald. I've seen the Ghost Squad episode - featuring an Unnoticed appearance by Anne Carroll (Budgie's sister) and a shocking exit for Barbara Shelley - but still haven't finished with The Saint in black-and-white. I'm not far away from Series 5, in colour. Thanks for adding The Desperate Diplomat to our collection, and to wideboy for the previous post.

Last week, I watched an episode of Please Sir! called Mixed Doubles (1969). This has been a popular choice for sitcoms. Bewitched (1971), No Place Like Home (1986) and The Upper Hand, in 1993, also used that title, as did Action series The Professionals (1980) & Magnum (1982).

Well here you go then, Moor :

And while Michael is called "Max" in the plot:

He is indeed referred to as "number six" by one of the guards.

And while we are on the subject of WILLIAM TELL:

Not exactly an original title, I know, but THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD got there first!
