Yes, it shows z-list slasher films and cheap zombie films, but it has shown some classic British horror (Doomwatch, Fright and others), has and is showing some very good recent US/Canadian sci-fi (The 4400 starts this week for example), the TV shows through the day are decent (New Twilight Zone etc), and is now showing Hammer films and the TV series.

The channel does show some rubbish, but it imo also shows some good stuff as well. As a fan of horror and especially British horror, I like to have such a channel.

And a few of the new low budget British horror films it has shown have been pretty decent.

    Yes!

No, they do sometimes have something on that i might watch. But in the main i'm not interested in the cheapo slasher type films they have on. But showing some Hammer films is a good shout.

I have to admit I had completely forgotten about Hammer on Saturday nights on The Horror Channel and more by luck than judgement I was having a quick channel surf before getting an early Saturday night when I came across Hammer House of Horrors with Diana Dors just having started and being followed by one of my Hammer top ten "Plague of the Zombies". Thank goodness for Sky Plus ! I shall look forward to watching both when I'm not so tired.

Hammer Comes To The Horror Channel This October.

    Share:

Scars Of Dracula The name Hammer is synonymous with quality, bloody and very British horror and during October the Horror Channel is celebrating its legacy with a season of its finest movies all with exclusive introductions from Kim Newman.

You'll find Dracula, Baron Frankenstein, a Mummy, the walking dead and a sinister curse.

All movies start at 11.10pm and keep checking the site as there's more to come from the house of Hammer here on the Horror Channel.

Scars Of Dracula - October 1st
The blood-sucking Hammer horror from 1970, Scars Of Dracula kicks off our season in style. Starring Christopher Lee, Dennis Waterman, Jenny Hanley and Patrick Troughton it concerns a young man and his girlfriend who travel to Dracula's imposing mountain top castle in search of his brother who disappeared in mysterious circumstances. What will they discover? Directed by Roy Ward Baker this fifth Hammer Dracula movie is one of the best.

Frankenstein Created Woman - October 8th
Peter Cushing gives an outstanding performance in Frankenstein Created Woman on the 8th. Baron Frankenstein is reanimated by his colleague Dr. Hertz and gets to work bringing a young maiden back to life using the twisted soul of an executed man. Directed by Terence Fisher this 1967 movie from Hammer took the series (to which this was the third entry) in a new direction but lost none of its impact.

Blood From The Mummy's Tomb - October 15th
Tomb-raiding terror from Hammer as we dare you to witness Blood From The Mummy's Tomb. The discovery of the preserved remains of an evil Egyptian Queen sparks the transformation of a voluptuous young woman into a 'yummy mummy' with a thirst for murder. Andrew Keir and the voluptuous Valerie Leon lead a cast that journey to a place (the Mummy genre) Hammer should have visited more often.

Plague Of The Zombies - October 22nd
Hammer's Plague Of Zombies is an unforgettable tale of dread making you wish they’d made more movies about the shuffling undead. When a plague spreads through a Cornish village it is discovered that the victims' graves are empty and a deranged Squire dabbling in black magic has an army of zombies!

    The Reptile - October 29th
The Reptile (which was shot at the same time as Plague Of Zombies) is a chilling piece from Hammer with a tight script and cracking direction from John Gilling. A couple move to a Cornish village where it becomes apparent that locals are being killed by a snake-like creature and their neighbour harbours a sickening secret.

I really enjoy this channel now. It used to show the worst of the worst of horror films - cheap, badly acted, woeful production values, terrible acting, you name it, just execrable movies.
It may well be that to really enjoy a lot of the films they are currently showing you have to be of a certain age. Who cares. Personally, I'm loving all the 70's Hammer films that have recently been on, eg Twins Of Evil, Lust For A Vampire, Hands Of The Ripper, The Devil Rides Out, Dr Jekyll And Sister Hyde, etc.
Tonight I see they're showing a Pete Walker film from 1972, The Flesh And Blood Show, starring Ray Brooks and Jenny Hanley. I can hardly wait.

Nex week, they are repeating Fright (1971), which is a excellent and underrated film, has been called the first slasher film, just ahead of our Canadian cousins and the classic Black Christmas (1974).

I never thought of it as being a "slasher film" before. But yes, it does have all the setting and plot of one. I think the only thing missing are some slayings - you know, a few characters who are just there to be stabbed or strangled, and then it would truly have been the first slasher film.

They're showing "House of Whipcord" tonight. I saw this at the pictures when it came out in the 1970's. Don't ever remember seeing it on a TV channel though.
Looking forward to watching it, a real guilty pleasure.

I saw this film in the cinema about 71/72 a solid and good suspenser! Don't forget the vastly underrated 'Revenge!' from (1971)

I feel kind of sorry when I see an actor like Patrick Barr involved in sex-slashers like The House of Whiplash and The Flesh and Blood Show. Presumably he needed the money but I can’t help thinking he deserved better.

Watched The House That Dripped Blood for the first time since I was a kid... Must be the weakest of the Amicus omnibus horrors? The really silly vampire story with Jon Pertwee was just, frankly, embarrassing. But the worst thing about the film was the framing story. It just doesn't hang together, even in a camp way like the train-ride to hell" or the "customers to the old shop" ones in other films. I thought the attempts to link the stories through the house were a bit desperate - the renting agent's bit at the end about the house reflecting the people who lived in it, makes no sense. It is just a bunch of unrelated stories weakly held together.

Amazed at the awful quality prints that are shown by this channel whenever I've been flicking through the channels, they are frequently VHS sourced full of drop-outs and tracking faults Reminds one of how awful things were before DVD though!

When the HC premiered The Witches a couple of weeks ago, it made me think of The Blood on Satan's Claw - both films feature a rural community invaded by evil from outside (a familiar theme in horror films of course); both culminate in an orgy scene, one genuinely sinister, the other laughable. Both have a pleasing sense of English rural life, which the excellent print of The Witches (sorry Harbottle!) enabled me to appreciate for the first time, having only seen it pan & scanned & possibly b&w long ago.

Tonight there's the chance to compare them more closely when the HC runs Satan's Claw from 22.55, followed by The Witches. But I fear it's the wrong way round if watched as telecast - Witches is going to look very weak indeed in comparison - especially with one of the feeblest endings in horror history. So if you record both, watch them the other way round.

Don't Both films have Michele Dotrice in them too, if I'm not mistaken?
