We should point out that that's not a 3D film viewed without the glasses with coloured lenses. It's an early British colour film

The colours are very good on fairly static images but they do separate a bit on images that are moving rapidly across the screen so that the one showing as the still for that embedded video is one of the worst stills they could have grabbed from it

Remember that this was made in 1927

I remember being in London in the 70s, walking up a major high street and Concorde flew over, everybody stopped and looked up, even car drivers stuck in traffic leaned out of the windows. Wonderful, the peacetime equivalent of hearing a Lancaster fly over. I can't think of anything like that today, it's all white goods and i pads, thrillsville arizona.

I was playing in a rugger match at the Lloyds Bank sports ground in Beckenham in the late 70's when Concorde flew by. The game actually came to a halt as everyone including the ref was standing awestruck. It was a truly beautiful sight.

I'm sure this site has been referred to here many times - and perhaps even these photos have been up. But just in case anybody has missed the website "The Retronaut" (http://www.retronaut.co/), let me point you in its direction: but beware - it's a one-stop shop for all your nostalgia photographic needs, any decade you like going back centuries ... This selection caught my eye because they are hi-res photos of London from 1949, and can be blown up and studied in detail, but they are by no means the only gem on the site - nor even the only hi-res shots of London yesteryear.

Oh my, that means she's the half-sister of Princess Alexandra, Prince Michael, and the Duke of Kent!..

I have fondness for her, I recall Raine in two different episodes of the TV programme 'One foot in the past' (a programme I would like to see repeated, but it never has been), one where she was extolling the virtues of the Claridges Hotel, where she sang at the Piano "We'll gather lilacs in the Spring again", and on the other I think it was the underground Ballroom at the Savoy Hotel, where she did a solitary Waltz dreaming of the grand Balls of yesteryear, all very lovely..........

That site is amazing - I could spend hours rummaging in there. Who knew that Jacqui Kennedy was married in such a revolting dress ? Even allowing for changes in fashion it is horrid - looks like an old quilt !

I've been right through this thread hoping that someone might have a picture of two young kids in the fifties at College Farm in Finchley sitting down having an ice cream or a drink. One of them has got a big hole in his short trousers. My next door neighbour took it and sent it to The Evening Standard (I thnk) for a photography competition. Modesty forbids me from telling who that kid is !!
