Davy Jones has died at the age of 66

Monkees star Davy Jones dies at age 66

I had the opportunity to see him perform with the Monkees during their reunion tour in 1986.

    RIP Davy

I saw him interviewed last year IIRC....still seemed as lively as he was back in the 60s and very enthusiastic about possibly touring again. A little guy with talent and personality.
Sleep well "Daydream Believer" and thanks. RIP.

Horrible news. A memorable personality from my childhood but rarely seen since. My heart goes out to fellow Monkees Peter, Mike and Mickey and other friends and family. He's left his mark in music history with two absolute classics: Daydream Believer, a US #1, and Neil Diamond's A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You, one of my all-time favourite Pop hits. I think it was prevented from getting to No. 1 by Frank and Nancy Sinatra's Somethin' Stupid.

Before he joined the group, Davy was in Coronation Street and played The Artful Dodger in a stage version of Oliver!. The Broadway cast of the musical were on the same Ed Sullivan show as The Beatles when they made their sensational TV debut in America. I remember spotting him and Georgia Brown (Nancy) on the DVD a few years ago. Glad it's on YouTube but upset that, now, both are no longer with us:

    R.I.P.

EDIT - Forgot to add that it's Clive Revill playing Fagin. The boy playing Oliver looks like Jack Wild but must be Bruce Prochnik.

yes one of those sixties 'feel good' shows full of carefree optimism.

Very sad news, enjoyed The Monkees TV show, he spoke one of those lines which has stuck me with always.

When asked by cowboys if he was a stable boy?

"What's my mental health got to do with you!"

    RIP Davey Jones

This is very sad. I hate to bring it up, but I feel a bit that we are all reeling under the death of someone who was closer to us through this forum, someone real, and perhaps saying "That's terrible" about this sounds a bit hollow because, after all, Davy Jones was practically fiction to me. But I really liked Davy Jones the Monkee, and 66 is youngish these days.
I think it was only last year that the Monkees (without Mike, as always) did a series of spectacular concerts covering an astonishingly bright and ringing back catalogue, and I wanted to go, but thought "I'll wait til next time". Now there won't be one, which is a shame.

The song that keeps popping up on my i-pod (the only Monkees track on there at the moment) is "Whole Wide World", from the 1980s (again, without Mike) but it's not on youtube. This one is - another of my favourite Davy Jones performances ...
