Great film .... the recorder is set and I will also be watching at the same time.
20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) is on Channel 4 on Monday 16th April 1.35pm-3.10pm. One of my favourite of the 50's sci-fi films. Ray Harryhausen creates the monster fron Venus that grows from a baby to something more spiteful !!!. Saw it at the New Bohemia Finchley Central when it first came out but I can't remember what it was was double billed with.![]()

I have 20 Million Miles to Earth on tape (yep taped it on VHS from the tv set) by one of my favorite directors Nathan Juran who was good friends with Torin and gave him lots of work.

There's a colourised version of the movie available on DVD - supervised by Ray Harryhausen himself, who's on record as saying that he would have preferred to have made the film in colour, but settled for black and white for budgetary reasons. I respect his view - he's the creator after all - but I'm rather anti-colourisation and, to me, the Ymir creature will always be a black and white 'wonder' (just like 'King Kong').

This is news to me. I have read that when Harryhausen first heard the score for 7th Voyage of Sinbad he told Herrmann he felt it was his best work for the movies, an assessment the composer disagreed with. Herrmann went on to compose three more scores for the Harryhausen/Charles Schneer team afterwards.
