Yes, I think it is shocking. I think we should have had a two minute silence and books of remembrance in Tescos. And a great big group hug.
Time Bandits was on Film 4 this afternoon. Whatever its merits or otherwise, considering the world-wide events taking place marking the Titanic centenary should they have chosen another day to show as it deals with the sinking of the liner in a comical way. What are the opinions of forum members?
Just wondering
Oops, realised the typo in the topic heading. It should of course read tactless

No, nothing to worry about it, a ship sank 100 years ago and a lot of people died and its very sad but it was a hundred years ago, time to move on and open up to closure on the matter cinemal.
Maybe the should have offered counselling afterwards.
Fascinated now to know what it was before.......
I'm surprised that film is shown at all anymore, with it's shameless fun-poking at those vertically challenged people, not to mention the representation of God as some kind of archly bumbling old thespian, and a wife-beater in the cast!!
Where can I leave some teddy bears?
I enjoyed watching Time Bandits again....Im sick to death of the Blanket coverage of the Bloody Titanic..
In Spain they schedule films especially to 'mark' news stories. When the Russian crew of a submarine was trapped a few years back, they showed a film with a similar storyline. At least, I remember being shocked and outraged (in a very English way; I rolled my eyes and tutted) at the time, but I can0't remember what the film was; if it was Das Boot, then it's not really the same story, but it's still tactless.
Nope, nothing wrong with showing it. Not sure why the 100th anniversary somehow makes it unacceptable.
I recall one channel postponing 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' because of a train crash which had happened the previous week.
Well, they have gone a little overboard with the Titanic coverage.
I know, I know ...
If you watch the first minute or so of Andrew Marr you'll find he feels the same.

You are obviously sensitive to the story of Titanic Cinemal. Nothing wrong with that. Just because it is history doesn`t mean we shouldn`t feel compassion for people. I feel the same about British soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1![]()
Some wag on another forum I use claimed to have rolled a lettuce across a supermarket aisle on Sunday and shouted "iceberg dead ahead!"
The "joke" went down badly.
Sorry, perhaps I should re-phrase that... on second thoughts, bollocks, the whole topic is becoming too sensitive.
I do recall being mildly disgusted several years ago when "The Omen" was broadcast on Christmas Day, crass programming at best.
In the recent flurry of news-stuff, there was an item about a Cruise recreating the Titanic's journey exactly 100 years on and I recall wondering if they had also booked the iceberg........![]()

Spotting this while browsing an April 20th, 1912 newspaper.....

I was struck how tactless the Empress Theatre was back then.......
in conjunction with regular vaudeville acts indeed......![]()
......not sure about the 'slides' either! Oooops!
