A night of grief following the sad announcement of Robin's death. Very upset. All I can do is remind folks of two of my favourite Bee Gees songs:

The Bee Gees - Run to Me (1972)

    Peak position: #9

I don't know what show that's from but this is definitely The Ed Sullivan Show (also known as
Toast of the Town), broadcast 17th March 1968. Robin's at the piano, Maurice in the green suit:

The Bee Gees - Words [HD]

    #8 in 1968

More of a showcase for Barry, who has now lost all three of his younger brothers. It's all very sad.

I must add one with Robin as main vocalist. This was released as a single in America but not here:

I Started a Joke - The Bee Gees

    #6 in 1969

EDIT - Just found an alternative version. You won't mind hearing this a second time, I promise you:

Robin Gibb singing I Started a Joke, Live at the Festival Hall

He was a great guest, as well as singer, although some interviews will be remembered for unhappy reasons, particularly those with Clive Anderson and one for This Morning in the week that Maurice died (reacting angrily to Graham Norton's insensitive remarks). I was as shocked as everyone else when he made one of his last appearances on Alan Titchmarsh's show.

I will of course try to think of happier times and the brilliant music he helped to create. Deepest condolences to Robin's family. I liked him very much and am desperately sad that he's gone, just a couple of days after Donna Summer.

    Rest In Peace, Robin

    Poignant tribute Cornershop.

The Bee Gees are connected with so many memories. "I Started a Joke" is one of their best songs - I see you agree. "How Deep Is Your Love" was my favorite, and I always hear it with pleasure.

They certainly have had their share of loss. And Robin Gibb battled his illness for a long time, which i didn't realize.

It's particularly sad that he should die when recently the Bee Gees are being taken more seriously for their late 60s pop-psych albums, which are full of surprises and pleasures. Not that it matters - after all, they are legends for over 30 years chart pop, but there is a lot of life beyond their greatest hits. Which is not to detract from the greatest hits.

When I was young, I used to think Robin Gibb's infinitely melancholic face was extremely cool. There was something effortlessly great about the Bee Gees.

    And it's far too young.

"Everyone should be aware that The Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music," said Paul Gambaccini.

I saw the Bee Gees at the Sydney Entertainment Centre about 1990. Robin Gibb came out on his own & sang "I started A Joke".

You could hear a pin drop during the song & when he finished he got the biggest applause of the night.

A magic moment! R.I.P. Robin & thank you!!

Very sad. Although I never saw Robin perform live, I did see him in a chat show. Someone at work sometimes organised coach trips. Two that I went on, was to a television studio in Wandsworth, South London. The show was not seen in this country, but was broadcast, by satellite , live to Australia. It was hosted by David Frost and Angela Rippon. One of their guests was Robin. He gave an insight to his carreer and method of composing. Thus showing that he had talent.

I am sorry for his family and friends. But he has left behind some good music, that I think will bring pleasure to people in years to come.

    R.I.P. Robin.

A great shame, he was interviewed not all that long ago and was very upbeat about his illness and happy to be working with his son.

Yes,I think that most have us have been deeply saddened to learn of the death of Robin Gibb. He and his brothers have given many of us great pleasure with their unique style of music over the years and it goes without saying that Robin will be sadly missed. RIP Robin.

The Bee Gees were always fun even in those hazy crazy disco days of King Travolta. I guess there's some link between the fact that the twins have both died somewhat earlier than one might have hoped.

Poor old Barry. Last man standing now. He must be bereft. Let's hope he's Stayin' Alive for a long while yet and send him some waves of sympathy.
