Hi..new to here, excellent forum it is.

I have a question about 2 films I vaguely remember from being a kid..I was born in 69 so I think they were early 70's but could be older. I haven't put them in the main thread as they aren't UK films.

One is a Western and all I remember is a scene where some Indians (I think?) hijack a stagecoach and kill everyone, there is a woman and then kill her by forcing sand and then her necklace down her throat.

The second is a thriller and I remember towards the end the main character(a cop?) is running through old deserted buildings (I have the thought it was like an old deserted movie set) and a guy is walking down the main street singing Molly Malone.

Thanks to anyone eho can help me with this as it has bugged me for 30 years.

    Hi Silentbob,

    Welcome.

I`m not sure about the films, but for future reference, there is a `general film chat thread` (It`s ok to ask about American stuff there I believe), and a `can you name this film thread`, you may have more luck there

But I`m sure a mod will move your post for you when they see it.

In the meantime I hope someone can help you in your quest anyway. There will be some genius here who i`m sure will know the answer.

Number 1 might be Shalako (1968).

The western is definitely Shalako,Diane Cilento is the victim if memory serves. The thriller maybe the Untouchables with Costner and Connery perhaps.I have a feeling Connery's character may be the singer. But then again if I accidentally see something with Costner in it(apart from Open range),I tend to wipe it from the memory banks pretty quickly.

No2 could be No Way to treat a Lady where George Segal plays a cop on the trail of Rod Steiger who I think is either whistling or humming Molly Malone in an empty theatre. Super film.

No 2 is-yes-No Way to Treat a Lady and as Cassidy says its a gem of a movie. The Mollie Malone tune/song is a constant clue throughout the film-the Rod Steiger character sings it to one of his earlier victims, just before the Lee Remick character unknowingly meets him on the stairs of the apartment block. Only we as the audience know the link with the tune.

The Death by Diamonds sequence actually happens to the Honor Blackman character, Lady Julia Daggett. Very bizarrely the Honor Blackman character in a film of the very same year (1968/69) entitled Twist of Sand suffers (or almost) suffers an identical fate with diamonds except I think this was more self-enflicted. Can anyone help on this?

Rod Steiger was a smashing actor and really showed his range in No Way to Treat a Lady. One of his alter egos is a very camp character, who when insulted by being called a faggot, replies good humouredly, 'Doesn't make you a bad person'.
