It's a 20 second clip from a Cinema Short (nothing to do with the BBC) within a 55 minute BBC documentary Rick C...If we knew what the film was, where the clip came from, it would be a doddle to work out.
    Film Man.

I'm pretty sure that clip is Barrie Cookson.

Thanks both for the Barrie Cookson tip. Any evidence or links you could point me to? I've had a quick Google but no luck....

I did a double check by putting on an episode of DOOMWATCH called "Invasion" in which he appeared.

Thanks Gerald. Looks like mystery solved then.

Would you happen to know if he did any newsreel stuff or was it just features like "Look at Life"?

I believe he did a lot of voice-over and continuity work, Dayo, but I don't know about his contributions to newsreels.

I used to work with Barrie a lot, mainly radio announcements and commercials. I'm not aware that he voiced for newsreels but he certainly did a lot of film commentaries.

Yes Dayo, We (Radio Luxembourg) used him regularly for announcing (London) and various commercials.
We also used John Witty,John Braban, Philip Madoc, Stephen Jack, Patrick Allen, Tim Turner, Valentine Dyall among many others.
    He died in 2005.

Wow - that's fascinating. The original voiceover crew! Did you ever run into Al Bailey?

Not too sure how to take that question Dayo. Is there something you want to tell me?

I was only asking if you knew Alan Bailey? He was a sound engineer at Hertford Street throughout the sixties. I met him several times at Radio Trent in Nottingham - top bloke!

I have to admit that 'I'm that top bloke' Dayo. Thanks for remembering and wondering how we met.

Well, well, well, what a small world. Colin Day, another fine voice I've used and abused in the past. I'm well thank you but now retired. Cheers mate.

Abused? Probably deserved to be! But in truth I remember nothing but patient, kind and insightful direction. And this would be a very good time to place on public record my immense gratitude for everything you taught me about the craft. You were a part of a very rare breed. A sincere thank you Al.
