How do you think Sigourney Weaver represents women through her roles in films. E.G. In the Alien films she represents women as strong and tough.

After playing "Ripley" so many times (the

    quintessential "tough cookie"), Hollywood

gave us more of the same - in "Working Girl".

My favourite film of hers is "Copycat" where

she is still smart and tough, but manages to

portray a more vulnerable side to her

    character.

However, the actress that you really can't

take your eyes off of is Holly Hunter - just

brilliant in "Copycat". She was equally good

in "The Piano" and "The Firm" (in which she

practically steals the film out from under

Cruise's nose). So sexy too !

But Sigourney does sexy and slinky as well - remember Ghost Busters!

But yes, she does tough very well as also seen in Gorillas in the Mist.

She also poke fun at herself and the dumb blonde stereotype in Galaxy Quest.

By the way, Jane Campion said she was looking for "Sigourney Weaver type" for the Piano. So poor dear Holly was just a substitute for the ever-excellent Sigourney. :)

Jane must have made the right decision ultimately as Holly (and Anna) received Oscars for there performances....

Sigourney Weaver was not meant to be Ripley in Alien as the character was written for a man. Nevertheless, she made the role her own and, in contrast with all the women roles as commanders of space ships since, she was never a token pretty face.
