We were all very restrained yesterday in our expression of our love for Dirk. I should like to show how much he has touched my heart and share some of my favourite photos as a tribute to his enormous talent.

I could go on and on as they are all amazing and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy his work.

Thanks you for those lovely reminders, Elaine. Photobucket was not cooperating with me this morning and a couple would not appear here, but I suppose it doesn't really matter which ones we choose as we love the same films. I am watching the lovely Simon Sparrow on BBC2 in DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE now. Delightful!!

Isn't it a pity they couldn't have coordinated these showings with his anniversary, yesterday. Another example of a lack of respect for our national heroes. I think a series of letters to the television companies reminding them of the important dates is needed. Do you want to join me?

Dear Maureen and Elaine, thank you for the pictures and the beautiful words. I admire your skill with informatic because I am not able to send pictures the way you do
Have also watched the BBC this morning and yesterday I watched another of my favourite character, the wonderful Robert Gold in Darling. Each time I watch this movie I am deeply moved by the decency and kindness of the character and the charm and subtlelty of Dirk in that movie. Each time he is on screen you only see him. More than a year now since I "rediscoverd" him and not a single day WITHOUT him.

I do also want to thank you Maureen and Elaine for the beautiful pictures. It is said that an image says more than a thousand words; well, it's quite true . Thank you so much.

Well - a minor injury kept me sofa bound for most of the day - but I have had excellent company - Burt Lancaster (Trapeze), Denzel Washington (Pelican Brief) and the wonderful Dirk (The Wind cannot read, and Tale of two cities) I feel so much better now !!

    Dear Claire,
It really doesn't matter how we say we love him just so long as we do. And it is so good to know that we all feel the same about this very special man.
I am envious that you were able to watch DARLING yesterday, presumably on TCM Europe. Robert Gold is a 'good' man who is not only faithful and caring but represents a very good foil for Darling who behaves so faithlessly and carelessly. I can't believe Dirk was not the first choice for this part as he fits it so well.
Can I also recommend the novel if you haven't yet read it. I found it so revealing about the relationship between Diana and Robert and I thought it explained how and why their love affair failed. It was also very moving.

Yes Pat, but the words matter just as much and yours are so beautiful. He really is cherished here by us all and long may it last.

    Dear Maureen,

Thank you so much for the info. I did'nt know there was a novel about DARLING. I'll have a look on Amazon. Alas I didn't see this gem on TCM Europe (they have seldom interesting movies) but I watched my on DVD which allows me to rewatch again and again the scenes I like and pass some scenes I don't

May I add a couple more photos to those above to remember two more super films.

The beautiful Jose who becomes a pawn in a larger game.

The gorgeous Robert Gold who is just a stepping stone to fame for Diana.

I am looking forward to discussing this film shortly when we reach 1965

I had to start off Hot Enough for June with this delightful photo of Dirk right at the end of the film.
