I just received the dvd version of "The Deadly Affair" for anyone who likes this film it is superb quality, excellent sound and picture. Far better than my old tv recording. I am still not convinced that the "Surrey" locations are filmed around Clapham Common, looks in part more like Mitcham Common.

I loved that film! I was obsessively trying to find out where the park was that Mendel tailed the woman. I am sure it was definitely not on Clapham Common but at the beginning of the scene you can see the name of the close that she lived - I am sure I found it in the A-Z in the London suburbs.

The scenes with Scarr were filmed in the Chelsea/Clapham area - the balloon tavern which is near to the Chelsea Conrad complex has recently changed into a swanky restaurant. Also Mason's flat is near the Albert embankment bridge in Chelsea.

It was shot at Twickenham so my guess would be one of the nearby Royal parks.

The opening scene was shot in St James Park, also used as a location in the Ipcress file and Day of the Jackal

possible error. Fennan's house appeared to be in a road called the Crescent. Yet later in the film the address was given out as something else. Having said that, this is an outstanding film, my favourite spy movie, ever.

The theatre where Simone Signoret is murdered during a performance of Edward II was the Aldwich just off the Strand in London. At that time the Royal Shakespeare Company had it as their headquarters.

The actual filming of Fennans house took place in the Crescent,Barnes. I was there on Saturday but forgot my camera, the church is Barnes Church and the area has not changed in 45 years. I will get some pics next time.

It's always nice to see that bridge in St. James Park in films, but it's been used so many times it's almost become a cliche - Smiley's People, The Magic Christian, The Ipcress Files etc.

I seem to have in my collection a rare British-style 40 x 30 original poster of "The Deadly Affair" which is quite different from any I can find on the internet. Would anyone like me to post it on here for viewing?

    2 questions however:-

    (a) what is the best way to scan it in.? I only have an A4 size scanner. Do i just pin it up and photo it with a digital camera?

(b)what is the best way to post images on here. Can we ever do attatchments or do we have to go via Photobucket or Flickr? I'm a real saddo at technical IT stuff so I need patience LOL.

ps. It might be the same design as the DVD issue. Can someone describe that to me please?

One of the most underrated spy thrillers, I revisited this a few weeks ago.

Now I know that a lot of the scenes were filmed around Battersea and Chelsae - the Balloon Tavern where Harry Andrews interrogates Roy Kinnear has recently been converted to a poncy restaurant.

However I have tried to find out where Simone Signoret's character, Elsa Fennan lives. I think its in Surrey (and she catches a 'Southdown' coach in one scene), but the name they call it (I think its Walleston) is possibly ficticious as I cannot google earth it. Anyone know where it is????

They did some filming in the Hammersmith Theatre, Kings St Hammersmith, my wife and I had about a week on the film as extras, my wife had a close up with Harry Andrews sitting behind her, dark haired girl, I am almost sure that all the theatre scenes where shot at this venue.

I searched the name Walleston in Streetmap and there is no such name. I found these seven similar names:

    Walmestone, Kent

    Walstead, West Sussex

    Wolverstone, Devon

    Wolverstone Farm, West Sussex

    Well Street, Kent

    Wellstye Green, Essex

    Welstor, Devon

Apologies - I should have done an original search as someone has already mentioned that it was filmed in Barnes. Must be going mad.

Just Google earthed The Crescent, Barnes and found it with street view - hardly changed at all so thanks for helping scratch the itch!
