Villain DVD. Richard Burton

I've just noticed that Play.com is stating that Villain is due for a release around the 3rd of September.Has anyone an idea about extras ? my minds racing now....

I have been waiting ages for this one to come around so i can bin my worn out ropey VHS copy that's about vtwenty years old.

It's from Optimum but no information on their site yet. I doubt there will be extras.

Despite the director and screenwriters (Clement and La Frenais), the three producers, the cinetographer, the composer, the 1st AD and 7 of the 8 top billed actors still being alive, DB7 was correct to presume there would be no extras.

yes cheapest is HMV and I have just ordered my copy there are copy's of this film out there but I hope this new release will be a good print

I bought the Optimum release of 'Villain' last week. Richard Burton un-nerved me, somewhat!

I watched the re-hash of 'Brief Encounter' recently - talk about opposite ends of the scale. Good to see TP McKenna in it too.

I went to the two HMV stores in Manchester to buy this today. I couldn't find it on the shelves of either, so asked the assistants to look it up. The first asked "Villain, as in Super Villain? Who's in it?". I said Richard Burton, to which he responded "Vurton?". I mentioned Liz Taylor, but to no avail. At the second smaller HMV, the assistant asked what I wanted, so I said a certain DVD, to which she responded "You're in the DVD section". I told her the name of the film and watched her spell it incorrectly on her database several times until finally she said it had been deleted!

I think mail order is the future.

Going into an HMV store is never a good experience in my experience

And all of this nonsense is usually after you've been queueing for at least 10 minutes. They always seem to have huge queues. I wonder if they actually sell anything to the people in those queues or if everyone else has an experience as bad as we did?

Back in my London years, I always found Virgin TCR to be more helpful and efficient.

Assistance in high street HMVs has always been dire. Ask some spotty in-store herbert about the latest blockbuster or Dr Who DVD and they'll be fairly forthcoming. Repeat the process about an older British title, and you might as well ask the cat!



Do your own research, and then buy online. It's the only reasonably stress-free option these days...

I haven't bought from a high street retailer for ages for that very reason .... buying online is usually cheaper and you can have a cup of tea at the same time!

in addition to the above items regarding HMV don't let us forget the incessant hurdy gurdy that is played at full volume in the stores, it's got to the stage when they should supply ear defenders as you enter the shop, it takes a brave man or woman to stay in the shops more than 15 minutes without earplugs.

I could not agree more why the people running not just HMV shops feel the need to play all this rubbish music all day, I should think they are driving customers away, I wont go in any shop playing loud music now, younger people seem to take it for granted

Background music is the pits .... especially in restaurants. Why do they do it? When I worked in a restaurant I asked the owners that question ... they didn't know either! The only use I had for it was when people wouldn't leave at the end of the night. We'd shut at midnight and one or two would want to stay until dawn if they could get away with it. We'd get rid of them by putting on a CD of Keith Jarrett's 'Koln Concert', three hours of jazz piano improvisations. That usually did the trick!
