Does anyone, by any chance, have a copy of this early 80s TV series starring the

superb Marius Goring? I have been searching for it for years.

I tried once before to locate a copy of this 1981 TV series with Marius Goring and based on a Hammond Innes novel.

No response before, but maybe some new members may have an off TV recording hidden somewhere. Pleeeeease!!!!!

Good to know there are others searching for this too. I began to think I was the only one!

Let me know if you come across it and I'll do likewise for you.

I would love to get hold of a copy of this mini-series. Kenneth Cope was one of the stars as I recall. Based on the Hammond Innes novel I think it was originally made in 1980 and was shown on Sky circa 1983 a couple of times. I don't suppose anyone taped this all those years ago?

Yet another try to find someone, somewhere who has a copy of this 1981 series starring Marius Goring and Kenneth Cope on tape or DVD. I used to think I was the only one searching for this but tellingbone and busyinmyroom are also fellow searchers.

I continue to believe that it must be in someone's collection and with the growth in the forum membership, I live in hope. One thing I'm pretty sure about - this is very unlikely to be produced commercially - so help please, someone.

I'm still looking, no joy though. Even got one of the hotel receptionists to help me trawl a couple of film archives while I was in Athens on holiday.

This message is for Tellingbone (Ivor - you don't seem to have your PM arrangement set up with this new version of the Forum) and for, if you're still active, busyinmyroom.

Just to say that I have been trying again to find this series but two possible links led to dead ends. First I managed to contact the controllers of the literary estate of Hammond Innes. They did not have a copy of the TV series themselves but suggested I contact the Australian Broadcasting Commission who were, with a German company, the co-producers. Well I did look up their website and they did seem to indicate a general willingness - no doubt at a cost - to make old material available. However the direct question about Levkas Man elicited the quick reply that the copyright only allowed for its showing on TV and not for publication ie presumably as either a commercial DVD or indeed for private copies.

So I am back to square one. My final hope seems to be that some kind soul on Britmovie will find an off TV VHS recording in their collection. So, if anybody out there can help PLEASE get in touch.

It was also a co production with Portman Films based in the UK .They were were wound up in the early 1980s I believe, their leading lights were James Gatward and writer the late Ian Stuart Black. One of their co German productions 'Star Maidens' has been released on DVD so you could blaze a trail from there perhaps?

Many thanks for that helpful suggestion Arfur. I have googled James Gatward and although there are some possible connections via, eg the TVS Production Company, I have found no direct route to him. Do you have any other thoughts as to how I might find him? Thanks again for responding to this thread.

James Gatward did very well out the ITV franchise changes and does not appear to have been involved in TV since? but of course you could look him up as a company director at Companies House (on line) and see if he is involved in anything now

Thanks very much for the update bertie. I'll look into the PM issue asap. Wondered why I wasn't getting any messages!

Could you tell me what this series was about, what Marius Goring's role was in it, and if you had any luck finding it? Thanks

Hi - no, after over 10 years of searching I've had no luck. It is based on a Hammond Innes novel about an eccentric palaeontologist (Marius Goring) going missing on a dig in the Greek Islands and his son's search for him (with, of course, complications). I have tried everywhere I can think of in my search for this which was shown UK TV in the 1980s. Can you Help?

    cheers

If he's gone missing, how many episodes is Marius in?
