Two pictures from a scene in the film 'Once Upon A Dream' (1949) starring Googie Withers and Griffith Jones.

Does anyone know where this lovely cottage is located?

The film was made at Pinewood Studios, Iver heath, Buckinghamshire - so maybe this location is also in that area.

This picture shows more of the approach to the bridge.

    Dave,

Take a look at "Reach For the Sky" near the very end of the film when Douglas Bader returns home. He goes to the very same house! I'll see if I can post a screen grab later.

    Thanks Sonny.

An identical screen grab. Seems they must have used some of the same footage for both films.

I also received a PM from Rob Compton and he believes the same house was also used in the film 'First Of The Few'.

    I'm not surprised, it's a beautiful setting.

Now - where is it located???

Wish I knew!......I guess it's a lane in Buckinghamshire/Berkshire, being on the Doorstep of Denham, Pinewood, Slough, etc;......I think, having just watched it on ITV4 a few weeks ago, this Cottage was used for an episode of UFO where Ed Straker's ex-Wife lived with her new partner (Philip Madoc)

In the Storyline, unfortunately Ed Straker's Son runs out into the Road outside their Cottage, is knocked down and later dies in Hospital

I also had that thought about the first of the few, can anyone confirm and also can we track down this cottage???

The UFO location (A Question Of Priorities) was Martyn Cottage, Ley Hill just outside Chesham but I don't think it's the same one.

As I live near Ley Hill I can say for certain that it's not Marlyn (not Martyn) Cottage. Given The First of the Few connection, I wonder if it might be Leslie Howard's former home, recently for sale? Just a thought. Here's a link which shows the house as it is now

I stand corrected!.......though I'm sure I've seen Marlyn Cottage in other TV productions?.......Programmes like 'The Saint', and 'The Avengers' come to mind.

The bus in the picture belongs to either Maidstone and District or Aldershot and District. They both used the same kind of scroll lettering and oval type logo just visible on it's side. Was Buckley a real place in these parts?

There is a Buckley situated near Rochdale in Lancashire.

That is probably the area that the bus originally came from.

I am really surprised that no one has been able to recognize the bridge in the picture.

I suppose it may have been re-constructed or changed by now but I would have thought that our location hunting members would have had a clue or two as to it's possible location by now.

Frustrating, Dave, isn't it? My thought was that it looks like the Cotswolds - the bridge is rather like the bridge over the poetically named River Windrush at Minster Lovell in Oxfordshire, and also a bit like Newbridge (also Oxfordshire) over the Thames (actually one of the oldest Thames bridges, despite it's name). Both these are close to where I live.

But though they are both similar, it definitely isn't either of them as they both have stone walls.

It does look vaguely South of England, but a bit further out of London than Buckinghamshire - and I doubt that a Home Counties based film crew would want to go up to Lancashire, somehow. But this is all just idle guesswork - I don't really know...

    However - someone must know!

    Hi Dave

The river bridge is Tilford in Surrey.

    Check these two links

    http://www.francisfrith.com/search/england/surrey/tilford/photos/tilford_photos.htm

Note there are two bridges in Tilford so not all pictures refer to the one in the film, but there’s only one pub and only one tree with railings around it.

I found this on another site.

“The surrounding areas have been used in many advert & film shoots including British Airways, Jaguar, Gladiator, Band of Brothers & James Bond”

Once again Alan you've come through with the goods.

Many thanks for sharing that information. Amazing to see the tree still standing near the pub. It looks a beautiful area.

Any ideas about the location of the cottage - or is that too much to ask?

    Cheers mate
