Unfortunately not one of his British films, but Max gives a good account of himself in the 1962 comedy-thriller The Notorious Landlady.
"This has got to be one of the funniest movies every produced. Jack Lemmon and Kim Novak are truly outstanding. It's easy to follow with a twist that keeps you guessing. Kim Novak is the attractive American landlady accused of killing her husband. Jack Lemmon is the American diplomat who rents a room in her house. Together they make magic as the plot's twists and turns develop. If you like a good old fashioned comedy thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and keeps you laughing, this is the film to see. Fred Astaire also gives a very good performance as Jack Lemmon's boss. The laughs keep coming as the the two of them do everything in their power to help Novak in her time of need."
