Deadly Strangers (1974)
Hi folks I wonder if anyone can help me name a film I vaguely remember watching as a kid.
What I can remember is it had Hywel Bennett in it and an Austin Maxi! it was an on road film where one of the two stars(I think) was an escapee from a lunatic asylum. It was in the 1970's and could have been a made for tv film.Help!
cheers
steve
I didn't think Hywel Bennett was in Deadly Strangers. Wasn't that Hayley Mills and Simon Ward? Bennett and Mills were in Twisted Nerve and Endless Night together. Bennett was a psychopath in both of those IIRC.

Ah, Endless Night! Grossly underrated film IMO. Worth the ticket price for Bernard Herrmann's score alone.

I remember a programme from the early '80's on ITV starring Simon Ward (I think) and a young blonde trying to make a fast getaway in a sports car whilst being chased by a gentleman. It turns out that the blonde isn't the victim of the piece, but the villan - out to bump off Ward...
I can't think of the title, but it may have been a tale from 'The Agatha Christie Hour' ??
Cheers
With Ward in the cast it sounds like Deadly Strangers.

That's the one![]()
Best Performance was from the Maxi in Deadly Strangers.. Simon Wards line at the level crossing.."I can't catch it in this!!! ""I think..otherwise it was a lackluster yaun:) There where two Teal Blue Maxi's used.. take a close look and you'll see the seat belts are different!

There was also Sterling Hayden in that monster of a car. I haven't got a clue what car it was but it certainly looked old. "Deadly Strangers" has never been released on DVD but occasionally it pops up on EBAY. Usually someone will have done a VHS to DVD transfer. It's not a perfect film but it is worth watching if only to see Hayley showing a little flesh!!Peter Jeffery is quite good as the lecherous Uncle.....
It's a fantastic film, especially for its great early 70s yellow-tintedness: although the quality of the print I got may have something to do with that.
One of those half-remembered lost classics that makes you wish you could jump in a time machine. And so obviously written as a vehicle for Hywel Bennett, even though he wasn't in it. Simon Ward does a great job though- it just would have been nice to see the duo complete their trilogy of terror after 'Twisted Nerve' and 'Endless Night'. Great days.
'Deadly Strangers' (the greatest British film ever made!) did get an official DVD release in Spain. Imagine my excitement when it finally arrived, only to be quashed with the disappointment that it was dubbed in Spanish with the English soundtrack completely removed!
Hi, I hope someone help me identify a film I watched once and would like to see again. It's bugged me for years.I probably saw it in the late seventies. I've only ever seen it once.
What I can remember is it's probably early to mid seventies going by the fashions and cars. A man picks a woman up in his car. Think she was hitch hiking. There are news reports on the radio about someone who's escaped from somewhere. All through the film you think it's the man and it turned out to be the woman.
Thanks in advance,
Claire.
I'd agree with Euryale
It's on Youtube
