I met Coe at a publishing 'do' about 20 years ago and he certainly played the big ''I Am'' that day. He was obnoxious to virtually everyone. The man is a complete twat IMHO.

I know he rarely acted , but Ned Sherrin was extremely pompous on the two occasions I met him.
However, the contrast makes all the lovely people we've met all the greater.

Freddie Bartholomew doesn`t got a autograph of Greta Garbo.
She closed the door when he asked her on the set of Anna Karenina.

    Not very nice!

Fair enough, but the second occasion was at a charity dinner for the Terrance Higgin's Trust where I was sat near to him on a table for eight. After initial introductions he made no attempt to speak to anybody at the table except for two others. Considering that this was in aid of charity I would have thought he could have behaved more courteously. Fortunately, he buggered off after the pudding, leaving us to enjoy a good evening for a worthy cause.

It's well-documented that Alastair Sim preferred to spend 10 minutes lecturing young fans on the folly of autograph hunting rather than just sign a bit of paper

Many many years ago an ex-associate of mine met Wilfred Pickles and apparently found him to be the most insufferably arrogant person he had ever encountered.

Bob Hoskins made few friends around my home town whilst filming here a few years ago. The bloke had a serious attitude problem.

In the 70s Hughie Green also visited this corner of England. Swaggered around like he owned the place and regarded the local mere mortals as though they were something he'd trodden in. Absolute twat.

I met Bob Hoskins on the way home from a film festival in Spain. He was chatting to a friend as we waited for our luggage. I waited for a break in their conversation and then approached Bob saying "May I shake the hand that throttled Roger Rabbit?" He laughed, shook hands and then we had a nice chat about his work. A very nice and friendly man.

Maybe you caught him on a bad day, or maybe it's the way people approached him

    Steve

Tonch fails to mention that he is a six foot tall rabbit, which might have spooked Hoskins.

I have always got that impression. Purely from TV and radio, never having met the man.

Don't quite understand how my post would imply arrogance. . .
