I sort of know what you mean. But surely if there's violence in a film or TV show it's always there because it's part of the plot. To show how violent a particular person is or how someone suffered due to a violent attack.Originally Posted by hankoler
I don't know of any title where there were violent scenes which had absolutely nothing to do with the plot

Midsomer is an excellent series--I have gathered all of the epsiodes I can that are available in the U.S. The interplay between the characters is realistic and well-done, and the mysteries are uniformly outstanding. It's a much better series than the detective programs like CSI and the like on U.S. television. But then, isn't that usually the case, when comparing UK and US programming?
It's filmed around Bucks / Berks isn't it? Nothing to do with Midsomer in Summerzet.Originally Posted by Chevyman

Now that DCI Tom Barnaby is retiring because John Nettles is leaving Midsomer Murders, Neil Dudgeon has been named as his successor, playing DCI John Barnaby, a cousin of Tom's.
Nettles will be appearing in another four episodes, the last of which will be screened next year.

I think Neil Dudgeon turns up in tonights episode.
Have you noticed it never rains in Midsomer? Beautiful sunny weather, permanently blue skies, gardens in full and glorious bloom..... makes me want to emigrate.
That's one of the reasons I like to watch it, too.Originally Posted by Chevyman
I've watched it from the start and have always enjoyed it. I'm aware of the niceness and tweeness about it, but none of that spoils it for me at all.
Lately though, it's been wearing a bit thin (for me) and I expect Neil Dudgeon will inject some freshness into it.
A question.... with Tom out of it, does that mean Joyce and Cally are going, too?
Joyce will be retiring with Tom - but Cally got married and left a while back:

I watched a recent episode called The Creeper - it was the very first Midsomer I have seen and I watched it solely because I noticed it featured an actress whom I admired very much years ago and haven't seen in anything for maybe 20 years: Angela Down. Jenny Agutter was in it, too. It was sort of OK but the thing is, no matter how well directed, written, acted, photographed, those incessant ad breaks and sponsorship buffers just killed it.
Fully agree. The natural development of the story gets distorted by the need for a mini-cliffhanger every quarter of an hour... although perhaps that in itself has created a new form of dramatic structure!Originally Posted by AdrianTurner
Maybe I've become a grumpy old man but I've grown increasingly less prepared to watch programmes that are interrupted every few minutes so that someone can flog their wares to me.
Thank heavens for the BBC.![]()
Am I the only one who sees a sinister undercurrent in this programme and storylines that are always at least a little tongue in cheek?
One of the few things I watch on ITV, the advert problem is easily solved record it and avoid the adverts. Neil Dudgeon is an excellent choice I think, excellent in the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries.
It may appear to be a quite place, but as for traffic congestion, how many times a day would you get stuck behind a hearse
xx
Midsomer isn't bad, but John Nettles will always be Jim Bergerac as far as I am concerned. That was a series which had the lot, Stunning location, punch-ups, great guest stars and no
adverts. Plus there was Jim's wonderful car...
i've tried to watch 'midsomer murders' and 'inspector morse' but am easily distracted whilst watching series set in present day ('tales of the unexpected' and 'thriller' being the exceptions)!
While we're on the subject of MM, I'm pretty sure these episodes, already submitted to IMDB, have not yet been shown here in the UK!
Talking to the Dead
The Great and the Good
Made for Measure Murder
Blood on the Saddle
The Silent Land

Indeed not. The Creeper was the first new one broadcast in the UK since September - ITV tends to drop everything on a Wednesday if football is involved. The dates shown on IMDb for all those episodes from The Creeper on were the original planned broadcast dates.
Thoroughly enjoyed it tonight washed down with some fine Burgundy and....I guessed the murderer!!
Also enjoyed the guest stars such as Lucy Cohu, Mark Gatiss, Janet Suzman and Saskia Reeves struttting their stuff!
I've always loved the series - typical "Agatha Christie" type puzzles nicely spread out over a couple of hours, and in, as already said, lovely locations.
I love the way that Causton suddenly "acquires" something - a race-course, a threatre, and airport - all down to the requirements of a particular script.
I love the way Joyce is a member of whatever organisation a victim or murderer belongs to. Over the years, that woman has had so many hobbies, she must be totally confused.
Finally, can anyone tell me if "Cully" is a proper name, a made up name or a shortened form of another name. It really bugs me!
Cully Barnaby - Tom and Joyce's only child and takes her first name from the village on Lake Geneva in Switzerland in which she was conceived when her parents were on honeymoon.Originally Posted by Thibault
