I'll sneak this in while Penfold's on holiday. I can't see what the benefit of a half a percent off the Bank Rate will do to help, if every country in the world does it. I had thought that the reason we earned almost a third of our GDP from the financial services sector was because the rewards to Johnny Foreigner were greater here than in other world markets, so he obliged by pouring money in which Gordy could then tax. This was why he refused to fall in to line with the rest of Europe on tax levels. Am I wrong? Is there anyone out there who really knows what is going on?

    Confused

This is the latest on things in the Far East.

Japan financial crisis: in last 7 days:

Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai bank announced plans to cut some of its branches.

Karaoke Bank is up for sale and likely to go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived.

500 Staff got the chop at Karate bank and analysts report there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared staff are in for a raw deal.

name='Mark O']'buy one get one free' items are a good way of economising during tight times

I have noticed recently that many stores are less prone to have 'buy one get one free' offers.

Another tip - Marks and Spencers have gone a ten pound deal atm - you get a main meal, a side, a dessert and a bottle of wine for ten pounds.

Plus - I can recommend their vanilla cream - extra yum.

    Got it

G.M. and Chrysler Explore Merger - Mergers, Acquisitions, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds -- DealBook - New York Times

It seems that Cerberus, who own Chrysler, are driving the possible merger and they are also in talks with Renault and Nissan

I wouldn't like to bet on which brands would survive

The Challenger is already on the road and they're so far gone with the 5th gen Camaro there's no turning back.

I think it'll be the SUV sector that'll be the first one to be rationalised

I know - I do try! As often as possible. I made my own puff pastry for the first time this year..it took ages though and was a bit too buttery first time round.

It's a good deal though. I felt compelled to drink the wine too, which I wouldn't normally do.

Marks and Spencers carbonara sauce very highly recommended too.

I just get a bit nervous sometimes - especially if you have a little one - if the experiment goes wrong - the clientele will just not eat it!

And then it's beans on toast and a cadbury's mini roll - so sometimes I go for the safe option.

There's quite a lot of discussion on the relevant forums about these four week old talks which seem to be getting nowhere

Might end up dumping the Pontiac marque as there was always a lot of duplication, via the common "F Body", between the Camaro and the Transam

Another comment was "does merging two bankrupt corporations cure all the ills?"

Bill Heard, the largest Chevrolet dealer in the US, went belly up two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, if the merger goes ahead, here is someones suggestion of what the new logo might look like

It was autumn, and the Red Indians asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.

But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked 'Is the coming winter going to be cold?'

'It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold indeed,' the weather man responded.

So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again.

'Is it going to be a very cold winter?'

'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'It's definitely going to be a very cold winter.'

The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?'

'Absolutely,' The Man replied. 'It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever.'

'How can you be so sure?' the Chief asked.

The weatherman replied, 'The Red Indians are collecting wood like crazy.'

This is how Stock Markets work.

    Hmmm.
