Hearing The Who a few clips back reminded me of this rare live performance from April '68 of one of their lesser known songs...."Little Billy"....
It never did get that single release, although the studio version turned up on "Odds & Sods" 6 years later....
Starts off with Pete explaining the concept behind the song....

    Cheers

Eurovision singer Esther Ofarim is still singing at the age of 70, here she is though in 1979 with Randy Newman's 'In Germany Before the War'. Hauntingly wonderful . . . I'm looking at the river, but I'm thinking of the sea

You might think Aberdeen's song Clouds Like These is just a twee little pop song, but you have to admire a woman who can write and sing the following line: "I liked you better with your trousers around your ankles". That's my kind of girl!

Here's Vampire Weekend and the final track from their debut LP, the beautiful The Kids Don't Stand A Chance. Remembering the crumstock thread on this page, the instrument that comes in at 1:22 is a chamberlin (see link:Chamberlin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). I love the instrumental outro, drop dead gorgeous!

Echo & The Bunnymen, Liverpool's New Wave mix of The Doors and Leonard Cohen, with their epic closing and title track to their 4th LP Ocean Rain (1984). The French orchestra is excellent here (LP was partly recorded in Paris).

    Hi
What I am listening to now? At the moment, a lady who is sitting a few yards from me, in the Hemel Hempstead Library, munching very loudly some food. It is driving me mad. Mad! Mad! Mad, I tell you!

    Alan French.

Going through a major Suzanne Vega retrospective (songs & videos), one of my favourite artists. I'm surprised that she's not been posted on this thread before (maybe before I joined). Next week I'll post a song a day from her 7 studio LPs. If you think she's a one-hit wonder with Luka, I hope to change your minds next week. She's not just a folkie either, she has experimented with sounds and rhythms from house to techno to found sounds which she has made distinctively her own (check out Woman on the Tier). She has also been at the forefront of new technologies. Her Tom's Diner (with DNA remix) was the first MP3, and she was the first major artist to give a live concert by her avatar on Second Life.

Meanwhile, here are two stand-alone singles. Book and a Cover was one of two new tracks (the other being Rosemary on the b-side, hmmm might post that later as a brilliant b-side) used to promote her first compilation LP Tried & True (1998). Love this video, and the chorus always puts a huge grin on my face.

Left of Center was not on any of her LPs as it was written for the soundtrack of the John Hughes 1986 movie Pretty in Pink (and yes, it does use Psychedelic Furs brilliant song as the title track). The brilliant piano work is by the UK's Joe Jackson. The video is so mid-80s US, all powder pastels (especially blue and pink) and Molly Ringwald stylings.
