best and worse cover versions

They had something of a production line going at Hitsville and it appears to me that everyone pretty much recorded everything for their lps. Many Motown hit songs appear on many different artists LP's. If I remember correctly, Marvin's version was released as a b-side and the British dj's flipped it. Not trying to be nit picky as Marvin's version is much better than G & The P's.

youve got a point i know , because it was a bit of a hit production line at motown in those days . nevertheless he wasnt the first to do it and that still surprises some people even now

One of the greatest cover's must be Otis Redding's version of "Satisfaction", Keith Richard is on record as saying it's superior to the Stones original. I've also heard Burt Bacharach acknowledge that Aretha Franklin's "I Say A little Prayer" is better than his Dionne Warwick original.

this is a bit of a difficult one that you might at first think "no" but paul youngs version of "wherever i lay my hat " is better than the marvin gaye original IMHO . the moody arrangement and repentent way paul sings the lyrics are better than the original which sounds upbeat and jolly and doesnt suit the song .

I could never understand why Billy Joel's "Just the way you are" was covered by so many MOR artists when the original was pretty MOR itself.



In my younger days my dad would have Radio Two on and I'd hear a version of it played and I'd just think why? Why not play the original?

i thought that version of mad world that came out a few years ago by someone who isnt tears for fears was awful . mind you im not a fan of TFF neither
