Hi I am doing critical research for my A Level Media and want to get some feedback about my hypothesis- could anyone please answer the following questions. Thank you.

    1. Do you think that the role of women in society has

changed in the last 50 years?

    2. Do you agree with the idea that the representation of

women in film has also changed over time?

    3. Which genre of film do you think represents women in the

    most positive light?

    4. Which genre of film do you think most represents women

    negatively?

    5. Do you think that it is important that the representation

of women in film is modernised?

    6. Do you think that women in comedy films are represented

more positively or negatively than in horror films?

    Dear rosierose

    1 Yes

2 Up to a point, yes

3 The kind of film that explores them as individuals rather than gendered objects

4 The kind that doesn't do the above

5 I think they should be represented intelligently. Is that modernisation?

    6 Depends on the movie.

Touching on a few of your questions tangentially, I'd recommend Robin Wood's book on Howard Hawks. He splits Hawks's films into comedy (where the men are feminised - think of Cary Grant in I Was a Male War Bride and Bringing Up Baby) and others (where the women are masculinised - Angie Dickinson in Rio Bravo).

Otherwise, it does depend on the film more then the genre - but you might look at subgenres (screwball / grossout comedy, slasher films) as a compromise.

My project is based on what other people think not my own views. I have searched the internet for secondary research and have found theories based on Carol Clover's Final Girl Theory, amongst others, but this is part of general primary research where I have to get feedback from other sources. It is about your own opinions.

    1. Do you think that the role of women in society has

changed in the last 50 years?

    In Britain? ........ Yes............

    2. Do you agree with the idea that the representation of

women in film has also changed over time?

    Sometimes, but quite often, no.

    3. Which genre of film do you think represents women in the

    most positive light?

SciFi - where a bird kicks ass.

All the others are just so variable and change from flick to flick

    4. Which genre of film do you think most represents women

    negatively?

The ones where men in cars have dumb bitches on their bumper-bars

    5. Do you think that it is important that the representation

of women in film is modernised?

In some ways they might be better off *demodernised*

    6. Do you think that women in comedy films are represented

more positively or negatively than in horror films?

Probably more positively because they generally don't get raped and/or disembowelled in comedy films

    Yes

    3. Which genre of film do you think represents women in the

    Horror

    5. Do you think that it is important that the representation

Depends on how you define 'modernised' .... some writers need to realise that many women are not career obsessed feminists which is how many characters are portrayed .... many women are still family/home oriented

    6. Do you think that women in comedy films are represented

more positively or negatively than in horror films?

    More positively
