Three minutes in and Adrian Scarborough has held an air-raid drill, the Duke of Kent and Ed Stoppard have brought us up to speed with the Munich crisis and Dr Mottishead has demanded mousse a la florentine and we've learned that hot water bottles need to be placed 18 inches from the end of the bed, slightly to the left. Downton...what's that?

Thoroughly enjoyed it while looking for historical inaccuracies, as usual.

Found nothing except a split infinitive in Chamberlain's speech (clearly not in the original, checked at Wiki) and a missing definite article in front of "Prime Minister" which would certainly not have arisen in 1938...

I didn't see the first season but enjoyed this first episode of the second, highlight for me was the butler played by Adrian Scarborough though did wonder what Art Malik's role is in all of this, ( Assume it was Lady Holland's servant). The role of Sir Hallam Holland as one of the few people who really knew Hitler's intentions was reminiscent of Linus Roach's playing the civil servant Ralph Wigram who passed on information of Germany's intent to Churchill in 'The Gathering Storm'.

I dipped in after a few minutes and the first thing I heard was: "it's only been three weeks since Her Ladyship's Caesarian" which didn't strike me as the sort of thing nice downstairs folk would've said in them days.

The monkey I do love this more than Downton for many reasons (more interesting war, more entertaining cook, better name-dropping) but mostly because of Adrian Scarborough who just gets better and better. Who do we have to lobby to get him appointed an official National Treasure?

It's obvious what kind of men you like Captain - Should Be National Treasure and World's Greatest Living Actor are quite similar, n'est pas? I agree though, AS is wonderful in everything he does without being TOO arch, although arch is what he does best.

They actually once did Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead together . Why have they never been given a sitcom?

You don't want me to mention why Adrian is not allowed to play at sitcoms anymore do you ?

I like this much better than Downton . More interesting characters and realistic dialogue. Yes, we`ve jumped ahead a bit but it didn`t seem ridiculous.

I didn`t even know about those prams

Ah yes, of course. Responsible for damage to the career of immensely talented Lucy Punch, who was meant for great things, but from then on relegated to the odd guest film role and slated tv show. Also for the buxomisation of Alison Steadman, destined from then on only to play the overblown mother with the raucous laugh. Mercifully, Julian Rhind Tutt eventually rallied and of course National Treasure To Be has soldiered on regardless even if he did have to stay close to Alison Steadman the next time he dipped his little toe into the sitcom.

So far Dr River Song has been rather bad-tempered but apparently she has reason to cheer up in episode 3. Which is nice.
